Title: I need help finding health Insurance
Post by: buzz words on June 27, 2008, 11:09:38 PM
I need help finding insurance for my daughter. She is 2 years old and has had two open heart surgeries 1st at one month old second at 9 months old due to an illness called truncus arteriosus (Basically they say as the heart grows the valves don't grow causing them to do more surgeries as she ages) I have had her on state insurance because I wasn't able to get her covered "completely" through my insurance.

The problem with the state insurance is that every so often she just drops off with out warning and when we go to get her ex-ray we're told that she isn't covered. The case worker

Is aware of the seriousness of the condition and was aware that she didn't enter the information in but decided not to call us.

I am all about being a man and trying your hardest ie www.imdelivered.com & www.yournewstulsa.com . This circumstance (heart) is why I wanted to take care of things and get off of state insurance.  She has gone through more than $600,000.00 in medical bills.

I have been having a lot of trouble finding a company that will cover (all) her needs that want charge $700.00 plus a month. This is so high because and insurance company looks at this and say before she turns 21 there is a 90% chance she'll have one or more open heart surgeries.  Any suggestions?

Have you tried looking into the Shriners?  (For the surgeries, not insurance)

I appreciate you wanting to get off state insurance (Sooner Care?) and, as you say, "being a man".  You get a lot of crap from people on here, but I admire your initiative in trying to make a living for your family.

I think you are going to run into dead-ends with private insurance or way high premiums  simply due to the pre-existing condition.  Your daughter is a prime example of who should benefit from public assistance programs like Medicaid and Sooner Care.  Is it the best program?  No, but it may be the best option available to you at this point.

I haven't looked up Shriner's. I am constantly asking questions, surveying because once again There is no other way can I get around so many intelligent people and receive so much free information.

Am at the "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired" aka "the turning point" As far as me spamming here is an old discussion.

Absolutely!! I am still with it. www.imdelivered.com What excites me is finding things that serves people, things that cause a change for the better in their life. I love to interview and "pick someones brain" . Really, not many people would just seat and have coffee with me "some kid" and allow me to get this wealth of knowledge that I am getting from you all.

I like to know why things work the way that they work and why people make the decisions that they make. Why is it that the local paper can get a way with socially raping (overstatement) the uneducated.

Don't let them insult your intelligence and get away with it!! I feel that some of us do not have a "Hell No! I am not going to take this anymore" attitude inside of us!!

The Tulsa World and it's readers are like some married couple's. The man is so good to her first tells her what she wants to hear, brings the flowers, whispers sweet nothings. Than gradually flips it, and maybe not physically abuses her but all signs of verbal abuse is there. And she continues to go back day after day after day. I want to know why some of you allow that!!

I was once told that the cemetery is the richest place in an area because of all of the information, some extracted to create great things but some not. I'm not calling you dead, but we have a chance to be effective with both this forum as well as the your news site.

This "yournewstulsa" once again is something that I happened to see. The majority of "post" on this forum deals with wanting to see change.

I saw what I "thought" was an opportunity, a solution.

The late Napoleon Hill, credited for influencing more people into success than any other person in history, wrote: "The person with a 'closed' mind on any subject seldom gets ahead." In fact, he noted, intolerance means that one has stopped acquiring knowledge. "The most damaging forms of intolerance," he documented, "are those connected with religious, racial and political differences of opinion.

Honestly if I where a great writer I would do as many news stories as possible with the www.yournewstulsa.com site.

It has [?][?]potential[?][?] to cause the editor's at the Tulsa World to change some of their slanted, decisive stories, ie Vision 2025, giving more credit to Kathy Taylor on the BOK building then she earned. Oh really, she had a hand in the vote?

I am sorry that my communication skills are horrible when it comes to asking the questions that you are wanting to read but I am here to learn. Teach my how to ask them. I am OPEN to learn!!!

To everyone that is willing to put up with it I am appreciative and your opinions affect the way that i make some decisions.

You're alright Buzz. Anyone who jumps in the ring has to expect to take some abuse. Each hit is a learning experience. Just because some of these posters know more of the details, don't conclude that they know anything more about life than you do. We're all trying to fill in the blanks.

Buzz, I wish your daughter only the best, and hope that you find a way to navigate through the red tape. I have nothing to offer, other than my prayers for your daughter and your entire family.

Someone else said it very well when they stated that this is a perfect example of when government health care needs to step up to the plate.

Your daughter deserves every fighting chance that she can.

I wish you the best of luck, and please keep us informed.

Nobody should ever have to go through this. When are we as a country going to take care of our citizens instead of our profits?

I feel for you and I wish you luck, even though I have no advice for you.

I left a job I loved to take a job I love less to get health insurance for my family, and it still costs me $600/month.

With a preexisting condition like that, the State insurance plan is probably the best option you are going to fund.  Unless you take a job that has wonderful coverage.  My grandfather had a series of open heart surgeries from 1985 to 1996, having multiple valves replaced and bypasses completed.

He was fit as a fiddle until age 78.  It's simply amazing how much they know about the heart and how well they can treat it.  Family first Buzz, if State insurance takes the best care of your daughter - the hell with the pride.

tulsascoot - While wanted very much to avoid a political tangent, I feel the need to point out that the premise of the post was that the government is currently covering the medical care (as well they should in such instances) and that the level of competence in that regard is questionable.  If you want to discuss it further, please start a different thread.

Pride is not the issue.  The issue is the insurance dropping without me being notified.  The caseworker is and was aware that she did not add my child when she was doing the review for insurance but decided not to add her because a new form is necessary for those that are on ssi.  She is on ssi because of this heart issue is considered life long event.  Why did she not inform me that insurance was not going to be available? That's a good question.  I have inquired if it is necessary for us to fill out the ssi form several times through out the last two years and each time told no by her.

Got ya'.  Basically, you are willing to spend $500 a month to get reliable and competent coverage for your daughter because the government provided coverage is not reliable enough (due to incompetence and/or sloth apperently).  I'm very sorry to hear that and hope things get taken care of.  If I had any knowledge of the system I'd be willing to help, but I'm sure you know much more about it than I.
