Title: What's the deal with Delassandro's?
Post by: Rex on June 24, 2008, 10:13:27 PM
I heard the food is great, but some people don't like going there.  What's the deal?

Poor service last couple of times I've been there.  Not worth the price IMO.

My wife and I have had nothing but great experiences at Dalesandro's. Great service and food. The portions for the entrees are big enough that we normally split them which helps make the cost more reasonable (or better put in our case, means we can drink  more..lol)

If you have had bed service then ask to be seated in Eric's area. He will take great care of you or just sit at the bar like we do and let Saul serve you.

Terrific food... swordfish (available only on Fridays or Saturdays) is tremendous, cacciatore delicious too. Food's always hot and tastes like it just came out of the oven.

We've always had friendly but very slooooow service. They're just a relaxed kind of place, move at their own speed. And only have two available seatings - so I imagine our ticket always hits the kitchen when everyone else's does. Hard to cook for an entire restaurant at one time.

Volume level inside can be a bit loud. We decided that next time, we'll angle for a table on the patio.

There are number of restaraunts in town that we ask to be seated in a particular servers area... we know them and they know us which makes for a more enjoyable experience. I was just trying to offer up one solution if you've had a bad experience with Dalesandro's.

One reason my wife and I eat at the bar is it to alleviate some of the issues from the 2 seating thing (which are at 6 and 8 by the way). We don't go there if we are in a hurry but could not agree more on the swordfish picatta on Friday adn Saturday. that is one entree we normally do not split.. i want the whole thing.

You can't go there in a hurry.  The service is always pretty good, though some servers are better than others -- that's true anywhere.  We go about once a week.  The food is always good.

Some nights it's faster than others, but it really depends on how busy they are.  Some people complain about the price, but they are usually cheap anyway.  It's pretty fair, in my book, for the silly amount of food you get.

I didn't have bed service there, just poor table service.

I've eaten there (seated at a table) many times.  The past couple of times have not been pleasant experiences.  I might give the place another try someday, but for the prices they charge, I expect better treatment.  Thanks for the advice about asking for Eric.  I tip very well if I've had a good dining experience.

Pardon the aside but, anyone out there remember Andy Warhol's Joe Dallesandro?  Remember being from lil ol Tulsa and seeing Joe Dallesandro on the big screen and just aching from all the rush of feeling.  You may be past your prime Joe but I bet you still burn up any sidewalk you transit.  Just a memory from a true fan.  Now back to the topic at hand.

it is DALESANDRO'S...

and if you do a search on the forum you'll find many detailed examples of unbelievable behavior by the owner/operator...

it is a damn shame because the food is very good... i'd never have believed how much of an donkey he could be if i had not witnessed it first hand, on two different occasions...

I go to Dalesandro's to eat . . . not because I give a hoot about what the owner(s) do(es) with his (their) free time.  They are always nice to my wife and me.

And a big +1 on Eric being a great server.  He's also a fantastic bartender.

Uh oh....here come de Buzz bashers......time to send Sonny over to give you both a head butt.

When I read over and over posts where these two were not going there again, I started going twice as often so I would not get sucker punched or conned.[}:)]

I go and enjoy the food with friends.

Last time I was there, I was wondering "Who is that guy in the chef's jacket who's slacking off and b.s.'ing with his friends for over an hour?  He's ignoring his co-workers and all the other patrons in the restaurant. If I were the boss, he'd be fired!"

Then I found out...he was the boss.

Pardon me for asking what may be the obvious (and for possibly keying folks in to a dining secret), but are you saying that one (or two) can go sit at the bar and order the same food at any time? Please tell... we have a babysitter on Saturday night. Might just show up, if we can get swordfish, at 7:38 p.m. Or 8:03 p.m. Crazy, I know. Thanks for confirming/negating.

That's the other part which is absurd- "seatings"?  It's not a ****ing cruise ship.

Call me antsy, but if it takes two hours to get through a meal unless I'm just in the mood to get smashed and call a cab, they've lost me.

I eat at the bar at a number of restaurants. If they're full and you don't have a reservation, just ask: "Can we eat at the bar?"  If so, you sit down, receive the same menu that you'd get at a table...and no wait!  (They'll tell you if there's a "bar menu" instead of the full menu.) Only drawback is that you don't get to sit across from your dining companion and chat face to face as easily.  On the bright side, you get drink refills much faster!

Go by on a Friday or Saturday or even Sunday it is crazy. And somehow people want to wait in line out the door. I was told the the Cheese Cake Factory has been the busiest Restaurant ever since it has opened back in August. That's a long time.

We went tonite and it was very average.  I didn't think the prices were THAT high but even for what we paid, I expected decent food.  It was very bland...  The atmosphere was great though.  Another plus is the wine bar next door!

We'll probably give it another chance but not very soon...

Ate at Dalesandro's Saturday night. I eat there once a week. It's really good, the wine selection is ok and remember, TWO PEOPLE CAN EAT FOR THE PRICE OF ONE. The portions are monstrous and more than enough for two people. Doing this actually makes it not very expensive at all.

As for Buzz, he has always been great to me. I have known him for a long time. Sal and Sonny are really nice too.  Also, I think Buzz's favorite restaurant is my favorite, Viet Huong. I always see him eating there.

If you go to Dalesandro's get the swordfish, you won't be sorry.

Delassandro's is excellent.  I love their Meatballs, Swordfish, Lasagna and they have the best ever Caesar Salad.  Not a fan of the Carbonara.

Buzz is entertaining in sort of a Mr. Roper from Three's Company way, Sonny is super nice to me, and Saul takes great care of his customers.

Best Italian Food in Tulsa.

Anyone else think it's strange for a "caesar" salad to not have caesar salad dressing?  I liked it but I wouldn't call it a caesar salad...

midtownnewbie, next time you go to Dalesandro's just tell them that the caesar salad would taste better with some dressing and they will promptly get you some dressing. Also, if you want to change anything like add a marinara sauce to your carbonara, they will be happy to oblige.

Let us know how that works out for ya next time. [:D]

To clarify, it did have dressing on it.  My point was that the dressing on it was more of your typical vinaigrette than a true caesar dressing.
