Title: Kayak-ing in Tulsa?
Post by: izmophonik on June 24, 2008, 12:17:41 PM
I just got back from my usual vacation in Minnesota and have been bitten by the kayak bug. I came back home searching for a shop that sells kayaks and basically I can't find anything other than bass boats...go figure.  If anyone has any leads on a shop please drop a line.

Academy sports sells basic Kayaks.  The better way would be to watch Craigslist and ebay.  Many people buy them and then sell them a few years after non-use.

I thought they had them at the Bass Pro, did when I went there after they first opened anyway.

West Marine has recreational kayaks and just about any sort of boat gear you could imagine for power, sail, or paddling.  There's another marine store on 71st back east of Woodland Hills Mall on the South side, can't think of the name at the moment, something like Boater's World.

43rd & Sheridan...and Sam's is still across the street. [;)]

You might find it useful to go to www.paddling.net. They have lots of reviews of every kayak made from people who actually own them.

Anybody been out on the Arkansas River lately?  Just curious how the high water affects the PSO whitewater...

I tried to pm you but your name is not registered. My son is looking for a fast kayak. Does it operate well without the outriggers? Send me a message please and let me know some details like price etc. Thanks.

I'm looking for 2-three seater sea kayaks to take up to Lake Superior and around Oklahoma.  What kind of coin is that going to cost me?

Thought you might like the Paddle Tales blog for all things Okie kayak/canoe related:

Thomas does a great job with his descriptions of the trips they take.  His photos are nice, too.  he has a resource page for shops and outfitters.

The OklahomaRoadTrips.com site also has an online paddlers store that offers many different kayak brands.  Good for researching prices even if you don't buy online.  Kayaks for Sale (//%22http://astore.amazon.com/vinebydesign-20/002-7951182-3224830?%5Fencoding=UTF8&node=31%22)

The only kayak dealers in the area that I know of are: Bass Pro Shops, Sun & Ski and Academy Sports.  My wife and I got our kayaks from Academy & BPS and they both provided us with all we needed to get them registered with the State.  I hear that getting your sticker can be tough with a used boat.
