Title: Up the Creek restaurant
Post by: citizen72 on June 18, 2008, 04:26:33 PM
Anyone tried "Up the Creek" restaurant at 71st and Memorial. We went there the other night and it had a pretty good atmoshphere. Would have to rate the food just average.

Our waitress seemed to have too many tables which affected our own service.

Ordered their Salmon on a Cedar plank. I do not like raw fish and had no luck getting them to cook it until it was done. Finally took it home, cooked it and will have to say it was delicious.

Just a little on the pricey side.

We planned to go there last Saturday night.  1.5 hour wait.  No place is worth that long a wait to me if I can't at least sit at the bar and order from there so we went elsewhere.  All restaurants seem to have service issues these days, it's an employees job market, people who used to wait tables have moved on up the job chain.

We went there about three weeks ago.  The fried pickles were pretty good.  My wife had the maui-maui with lobster sauce.  She said it was very good.  I had the bone-in ribeye.  It was average.

Up the Creek is exactly where that place will be in a year....if that.

When you have the backdrop of Blackinton Coat Fatory behind you along with a crumbling sea of asphalt parking lot, you are on a one way float trip up FAIL Creek.

Where do you people in north Texas... I mean, south Tulsa... go to eat something different than what you can get in any other city? Husband's brother was in town last night, and staying out there near the retail jungle, so we ended up at Macaroni Grill. Ick. After Mary's, Ciao and Garlic Rose, it seemed Chef Boyardeesque.

Sorry, that's my diva showing... but seroiusly, if I have occasion to host visitors south of I-44 again, what unique, bistro-type dining is there?

Have you eaten there or are you just feeling full of snark this evening?

It is always so much fun to read intellers posts.  They are always so informative, thoughtful, intelligent, inciteful, and discerning.  I guess 71st and Memorial is too far north for his lifestyle.  Can't wait to hear the lastest goings on from around 238th.

Thanks, Kashmir. I didn't know The Bistro was still around... their 'chokes and cheese may be worth the drive. Dang, I miss them in Brookside.

Different owner...same chokes and cheese.  Good place if you're stuck out South for any reason.

The bistro and Michael V's are great! Michael V's is so close I can walk to it.  I'm going to put BlueStone on my list to try.

Red Rock Canyon at 96th & Riverside was excellent, very good service and I was very happy with the food.  For the atmosphere (I ate outside) and entire experience, I'd say the value was equal to or exceeded the price.  Though I did find it hillarious that Coors Original rang through as an import.

It's a chain, but very small one- three or four units.

Excellent? Well, I say below average.

Up The Creek should change their name to Up The Shi'ite Creek......I give it 4 years at most.

One of the best in South Tulsa is the little Louie's sports restaurant at 101st and Sheridan. Great food and great service. They have several dishes that are outstanding for that type establishment.

I was shocked by the quality of Micheal Vs.  It is DEFINITELY out of place...but hell if secluded keeps the masses away, I'm all for it!

We're in too much of a hurry, only drive-through-bistro dining will do!

Never trust an Italian place with a type of pasta in it's name. Macaroni, Spaghetti, Pasta...all bad in a restaurant name.

Many years ago I went to Macaroni Grill with a date (before my wife of eleven years). They had a house wine on the table with their own Macaroni Grill label. My date asked how they make wine out of macaroni.

there is no northwest corner of The Palazzo.  It is in the southeast corner.

Service was great, food average I thought, but I didn't feel it was over-priced.  I've stuck to sandwiches or burgers when I've been there, maybe I need to branch out a little next time.

Secluded keeping the masses away seems to be the bane of many restaurants [;)]

Up the Creek is going after the Redlobster market.  Not Bonefish Classy, but not Fish Daddy's low end.
So don't go in looking for local chic cuisine.
Its not Michael V's, Garlic Rose... So lets not try to compare it.  It is what it is.  Aiming for family seafood market.

Must Agree... If your a fried pickle fan these are pretty good. Thought they were better than the ones at Runt's BBQ in BA
