Title: Downtown business closings
Post by: TheTed on June 04, 2008, 12:08:12 AM
I've noticed in the past few weeks several downtown businesses appear to be out of business.

Kinko's/FedEx

That really cool old-school barber shop in the Philtower

The hair salon on Fifth next to Quizno's.

Anybody shed any light on any of these places? Are they all really closed? I'm really hoping the barber shop in the Philtower comes back. No better place for a trim, a shoe shine, and a hot towel shave on the back of the neck.

I read somewhere that Fedex was going to be dropping the Kinko's name from their Fedex/Kinko's stores. Not sure when, but if they are doing it now maybe they shut it down for rebranding and whatnot.

Not sure about the others.

"FedEx Office" is the re-branding.  Effectively killing the meaning of FedEx as "over night delivery" and Kinkos for "overnight printing" in one swoop.  Read: stupid.   Is it closing or remodeling?

Otherwise, I have no real info to share.

The hair place next to Quzinos just moved to another location.  I think 4 & somthing, east of Boston.

The downtown Kinko's had the best service in town. Orders were completed promptly and correctly. I was disappointed when they scaled back their hours several years ago.

I agree with cannon_fodder. Getting rid of the Kinko's name is like renaming Kleenex to Kimberly-Clark Tissue.

It neither moved or closed.  I just walked by and they were open and cutting hair.

They're moving to South Tulsa, but will still try to serve Downtown with a dedicated employee making deliveries.  I don't know if they chose to move or were pushed out, but they told me that someone else has already reserved their space.  I hope it's someone good!

I was talking about Kinkos in the message above.

It's a bit sad to see any business leaving downtown.  I work downtown and like it a lot...now if I could just get my house to sell so I could quit with the ridiculously long commute :(
