I was talking to a co-worker today about this. She actually said, "I think he is a Muslim. Look at his middle name!"

I told her that it was nothing short of a lie.

She said, "Well you never know, with a name like "Hussein."

I was in awe of her lack of thought.

First of all, if he is Muslim, that is not a bad thing. It is something that should be looked upon with scrutiny, but it's totally false!

Anyways, I just wanted to pass along this tidbit of information from reg'lar working class Amer'ca...

"If elected president, Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama said one of the first things he wants to do is ensure the constitutionality of all the laws and executive orders passed while Republican President George W. Bush has been in office.

Those that don't pass muster will be overturned, he said."

No contest.....landslide warning. 2008 is a bad year to be a republican running for office. Bush has seen to it that the GOP is essentially eliminated from American politics for a very long time.

Barack Obama in Berlin before a crowd estimated at 200,000 people:
"We cannot afford to be divided. No one nation, no matter how large or powerful, can defeat such challenges alone. None of us can deny these threats, or escape responsibility in meeting them."

that whole Kennedy thing is an Urban Legend (about the jelly donut; what Kennedy said was actually correct grammatically speaking).

Obama's speech today i Berlin drew an estimated crowd of 200,000.

transcript here:
http://www.drudgereport.com/flash1.htm

It is a breathtaking kowtow to German liberalism.  Not saying that is bad, but he NAILED it to that audience.  He seemed to have hit the nail on the head while not burning bridges at home.  Even a few free-market tidbits in there.  Some things won't be overly popular on either side, but he seems to have told it as he sees it.

Really a fine piece of speech writing.  Whoever wrote it did a great job and of course, he delivered it well.  In general, few can disagree with the message.

Credit were due.

[edit]disclaimer, I did a quick once over of the speech.  Don't hang me on one or two things I breezed over[/edit]

It's not an Urban Legend.

In English, Yes, it would be correct grammer.

However,

Auf Deutsch:  Nein, dumbkopf.

Correct:  Ich bein Berliner.  I am a Berliner.

Falsch:   Ich bein ein Berliner.  I am a Jellyroll.

Berliner is the name for a Berlin pastry.

So, when JFK told the Berlin crowd "Ich bein ein Berliner", the crowd was stunned, and initially silent, wondering why the President would call himself a Jellyroll.

Then, they realized what he was really trying to say, albeit said grammatically incorrect.

I love sarcasm..... I am a Boston Cremer.

Sorry, CL.  Score one, not for German liberals, but for principled AMERICAN liberalism.  And that it is possible to hold liberal policy views and beliefs in this country that are quintessentially American and, yes Virginia...  PATRIOTIC.  Texas diplomacy (now, there's an oxymoron if there ever was one) is DEAD.  Thank god (Danke Gott.)

Of course, if the media reports on it from that perspective, it will be accused of...... drumroll please.... liberal bias.

Keep it up McCain.  Keep telling people that any Obama withdrawal from Iraq = surrender.  While simultaneously watching Bush's positions morph closer to Obama's.  Show us that experience of yours and share with the American people how it's possible you could end up in the bottom 1% of your graduating class, yet still be offered the highly sought after Naval assignment of aircraft carrier pilot?

Don't elect a "legacy" as commander-in-chief.  It didn't work last time and it certainly won't work this time with a 72 year old who finally discovered "The Google" about 10 years after Gore invented it... [;)]
