I thought I would start a new thread about the new midtown meat store.
I am probably too cheap to shop there often. I am just so used to being a "dollar menu" kind of guy and don't have the appreciation that I should for buying quality products.
I was however very impressed with the bacon I purchased there. The brand was "Beelers" out of Iowa. It was tremendous. I have heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day so I guess I am worth it.
I do worry about buying pork at the store. I always see the term "cured" on hams and bacon. I wonder what they were cured of.

I am the same way typically as well. I have been in there twice the past week and a half or so. First time I bought some amazing top sirloins that were 2lbs a piece! Fri I went in and grabbed 4 lbs of ground beef, and with the 10% off coupon was 3.39 a lb. I can't find that at Reasors or Walmart. Needless to say both meats were very fresh, tasted great and my family loved them!
Where is this magical bacon store?
15th & Harvard
Magical Bacon would be a great name for a rock and roll band...
Honestly, now that I've had their chicken, it'd be hard for me to go back to what I used to eat. Same w/ their beef products. I'm still trying to get dialed in on smoking their ribs. They are not as fatty as Rea$or$ are, so they cook different.
Good stuff, glad they are around the corner. Duke's a nice guy to boot.
Factor in the cost to treat your cancer from eating meat from Wal-mart, and perhaps organic meat may actually be cheaper.
Isn't there some place downtown or at 3rd and Cincinnati....I keep hearing some commercials for some meat place.....

And Natural Farms sells every Saturday at the Cherry Street Farmers Market at 15th and Peoria. Much easier to find than the store on Utica. They usually set up in the corner down by the Spice Market guys. The other meat vendor at the Cherry Street Farmers Market is the Creekside guys on the corner across from the fresh farm egg folks. If you don't know what I am talking about then you just need to go on down on Saturday morning and check the situation out. Take cash because the vendors do not take credit cards. They are local and the produce is fresh.

I will pay a premium for top-quality beef steak and roasts, but $3.39/lb. for ground beef??? That is way to rich for my budget. I have never paid over $2.00/lb. for ground beef, yet. I wait for a good supermarket special, and then stock up my home freezer. The only thing I use it for is hamburgers and meat loaf. IMO, the standard "fatty" ground beef is the best for the juciest homemade burgers.
You get what you pay for. Without even getting into the issue of mutant hormones and feedlot cows, the cheap 70/30 beef you get for under $2.00/lb in the stores has 34g of fat for every quarter pound of it.

"You get what you pay for" A term that some people don't understand until the end.

And that is what makes the final product so juicy and tasty! I assume your statistics are prior to cooking. In any event, I still say the cheap ground beef makes the best juicy homemade charcoal-grilled burgers. Besides, I only grill these about once a month anyway, so I couldn't care less about fat/hormone/additive content. I just make sure any ground beef is cooked to proper temperature.

Just had my first go with Harvard meats and I'm very impressed. We grilled some great bison burgers, did some chicken up with a teryaki marinade (delicious), and grilled a rib eye that looked like a slab of roast. It was probably the best damn rib eye I've ever had. Also grabbed some cheese stuffed sausage, they'll probably hit the grill today. I plan on being a regular.

Where do you live? Never mind, I'll just sniff the air until I smell good food. :)
They lost all of their inventory due to the power failure after sundays storm.
I cant find the report again to see if they are back up again but I think they may be.
Pitiful so many small businesses like this suffer because we arent really committed to burying power lines in Tulsa, but I think if AEP had to cover the costs of every refrigerator with spoiled food, that underground utilities would be a bargain.
My food stayed fine thanks to a $200 generator. I imagine they will be investing in something similar. Too bad for sure.
I wish they would have had an inventory giveaway. Nothing big, just if someone walked in give them their order for free (so cheapo's couldn't go freeze it in bulk). I eat meat nearly every day, so it wouldn't hurt their sales when they were back up and running. [^]
Not sure of the viability there, just a thought.
Sheesh, that's too bad. I'm right around the corner and had a generator I'd have gladly loaned them. Looked to me like power was off more toward Delaware, I didn't have a clue that anyone right around me was out for more than a few minutes.
Thats a bummer. I hope they had a hell of a BBQ. If they are back up and running, I'll be sure to go by this weekend and give them some business.
15 and Harvard, was that previously a gas station?

The only meat loaf I have made in the past 10 years is the recipe from the Lipton "Recipe Secrets Beefy Onion" dried soup mix. The recipe is on the back of the box, the "superior meat loaf" recipe. Can't fail, and works every time, a moist, juicy meat loaf, no matter what the grade/quality of the ground beef you are using. I use standard 73% lean ground beef, and have never been disappointed with this recipe. You can embelish the recipe to your content with herbs & spices, or maybe bacon slices baked over the top of the loaf (great), but the basic recipe/product has always been a big winner for me and I have never had a disappointing meat loaf using this Lipton mix recipe. One name brand product that I completely endorse.

not to my knowledge, it is on the Nw corner. The gas station is on the SE corner if I am not mistaken.
I think it was Skelly, Texaco, or might have been DX back in the day.
