As far as political controversy, not paying your taxes on time is almost small potatoes.

Agreed.

Which makes me wonder whether some bigger scandal is lurking.

Gus Blackwell is out too (for consistently paying property taxes late??).  I smell a scandal.

Based on the story I was reading this morning or ydsterday, to me it sounds like the media is making hay out of pretty small seeds if there isn't a larger scandal coming.  This might just be the appetizer.

I think the connection to the fund-raiser for Huckabee at Philips' house in Dallas was a stretch as well.  So long as everything at that fund-raiser was within the law, there's no reason to make a big deal of it.  I don't recall him being indicted along with Carol Fisher, nor convicted of anything in that case.  Feel free to correct me if my memory is feeble.

All that being said, something's got to be up with Cargill.  Paying taxes late doesn't make him a crummy legislator.  Corruption would.  He's gotten pretty big-headed in the time he's been in the house and that whole GOP PAC sounded screwy to me from the start, especially for a guy who was all about reform.
