Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1979...

http://www.youtube.com/v/a3cE9w82Bow&rel=1

Enjoy the opening panoramic shot of Bell's Zingo roller coaster to the tune of Knock on Wood... 1979 Tulsa versus NY Cosmos at Skelly including some realtime action within the first few minutes as the Roughnecks take a 1-0 lead...

And who sang the national anthem for that game???  Well, it was the legendary Billy Eckstein...

...still playing around with digital camera/video settings and trying to get the new site up by New Year's...

...late 2008 will mark the 25th anniversary of the Tulsa Roughnecks 2-0 win in Soccer Bowl '83...

More to come in the next few weeks/months once this website gets running, including:  announcer from WGN channel 9 in Chicago characterizes Skelly Stadium as a "house of horrors" for opposing teams ........  color commentator from Jacksonville tells his audience that Tulsa's Victor Moreland is the type of player who'd "kick his own grandmother"...... and commentator from New York tries to clarify why he characterizes Tulsa fans as "unsophisticated"....

Happy New Year!  Still trying to get the site up and running... with many thanks to nasljerseys.com and davebrett.com among others...

"Skelly Stadium, house of horrors... a park that measures only sixty feet wide..." [}:)]

1978 jersey

Before playing for the Roughnecks, Iraj Danaifard played in the 1978 World Cup for Iran, scoring a late goal to tie Scotland...

the Roughnecks... home at Skelly...

1981 Road Alternate Jersey-- I assume the color is to emphasize the number of (Northern) Irish players the Roughnecks had... it was in 1981 that Northern Ireland qualified for the 1982 World Cup... they made it in again in 1986... but haven't qualified for the World Cup since...

1983 jersey?... not really sure if it was used in '83... nice Nike design, though...

1983 Tulsa Roughnecks vs. Team America at RFK Stadium, Washington, DC

The new ownership for 1984 decreed the Roughnecks change from their red/white/black jerseys to a... cough, cough... urine-yellow... not sure why this was necessary...

USA Cable Network-- North American Soccer League Game of the Week... Wed, Aug 18, 1982 from Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey

FYI....I still have a ball signed by the championship team....sealed in seran wrap which I failed to do with the 1966 UCLA Bruins team ball and most those signatures evaporated....
