I am looking for a large (>16 cu ft) upright freezer to put in my garage.  Searching the internet, it looks like all the major brands have significant numbers of failures followed by terrible customer service.  I want an upright for better access to the food.  My present freezer is a 1971 Sears Coldspot  12 cu ft chest freezer.  It has worked fine except the power glitches during the 2007 ice storm took out the capacitor.  I bought a capacitor, installed it and the freezer has worked fine since then.  If I can find a suitable upright freezer, I'll get an external thermostat and use the chest freezer for my homebrewing projects.

Does anyone have any knowledgable info on which might be the least unreliable modern freezer?  Budget is up to around $1000.
