Canoo to Acquire Vehicle Manufacturing Facility in Oklahoma City

Justin, TX – (November 9, 2022) – Canoo (NASDAQ: GOEV), a leading high-tech advanced mobility company has entered into an agreement to acquire a Vehicle Manufacturing Facility in Oklahoma City. Strategically located with easy access to road and rail, the facility will produce Canoo’s LDV and LV vehicles for delivery to customers in 2023. With a dedicated training center, Canoo’s Vehicle Manufacturing Facility will employ more than 500 people and be equipped to ramp to a 20,000 unit annual run rate by the end of 2023, with additional capacity to scale on the 120+ acre site.

“Today we are excited to announce our manufacturing facility, which begins our path to scaled production in 2023 and delivers on our plan to bring high-paying light-blue color jobs to Oklahoma. The Oklahoma City facility has significant room for expansion and is a proven location for large scale production, with an established transportation ecosystem, including rail” said Tony Aquila, Chairman and CEO at Canoo. “We are working with our third-party manufacturing partners to achieve SOP on our own equipment this month. Following these initial builds, we will aggressively shift all our equipment into our new facility during 1H’23 with production ramp in 2H’23.”

Canoo considered multiple potential sites before selecting the location in Oklahoma City. An existing commercial site with more than 630,000 square feet of move-in ready space and significant room for further expansion, the facility will be adapted for Canoo and outfitted to accommodate a full vehicle assembly line with state-of-the-art robotics, a paint shop and upfitting center. As with Canoo’s other facilities in Pryor Oklahoma, the Vehicle Manufacturing Facility will be powered with clean energy. When fully renovated, the Facility will align with Canoo’s vision for sustainable, nature-centric campuses.

Canoo has focused on Oklahoma and Arkansas as Electric Vehicle (EV) anchor economy states. In addition to Canoo’s Oklahoma City Vehicle Manufacturing Facility, the company recently announced a Battery Module Manufacturing Facility and its MegaMicro Factory, a 400-acre campus at MidAmerica Industrial Park, a 9,000-acre industrial complex strategically located near some of the nation’s most highly traveled thoroughfares. The MegaMicro Factory will include a full commercialization facility with a paint, body shop and general assembly plant. It will be a significant investment in the state and will employ more than 2,000 when fully operational.

Good news for Oklahoma if this comes to fruition; Oklahoma's two largest metro areas will have plants, Tulsa will also have an EV battery plant that could supply
the two Canoo manufacturing facilities.

Oklahoma City’s Economic Development Trust voted Tuesday to send a request to provide $1 million in incentives for electric vehicle start-up Canoo to the city council.  No money is to be paid until 550 jobs are created over the next three years which makes this an incentives based performance agreement.

Oklahoma City's Union Station $17.2 million Renovation

                  OKCTalk.com reports:

Here's a quick summary of how things are going to move forward.

. . . This seems to be a great way to get the building renovated, open and in use instead of being stuck in limbo

indefinitely due to the entire project being so expensive there is no way to make progress.

This building is an absolute treasure and I'll be thrilled when it's open to the public once again, even if that means
a lot will still remain to be done.

Seven story office building, hotel and apartments set to transform the area of Midtown & Automobile Alley.

Core Bank is set to anchor the seven-story office building which will include a rooftop restaurant,  292 apartments surrounding the Garage Lofts on NW 13 Street.   Rezoning was recently approved for a mix of offices, a hotel and apartments on the northeast corner that was part of the former Dolese Brothers campus at 113 part of the redevelopment plans.

Attorney David Box, representing Dolese, said his clients are not ready yet to disclose further details for the parcel tracky that extends from NW 13 to NW 16. The site likely will include a station for commuter rail between Edmond and Norman in the Oklahoma City metro area as part of a regional transit system to be submitted to voters sometime in 2023.

Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center

Tinker Air Force Base Expansion Plan to Enhance Safety, Create Opportunities for Future Mission Growth:

OKLAHOMA CITY, June 22, 2021 – Officials of the Oklahoma Industries Authority and Greater Oklahoma City Chamber announced a plan today to facilitate Tinker’s ability to enhance security and safety, while also creating an opportunity for future mission growth.

“Since 1941, Tinker has been a cornerstone of our city’s economic base,” explained Clay Bennett, chairman of the Oklahoma Industries Authority (OIA).  “This base is arguably our most important economic asset, and it is vital that we do everything necessary to secure its safety and plan for its needs.” OIA has acquired 220 acres east of Douglas Boulevard to provide for additional Department of Defense missions and to attract additional private sector jobs.

The expansion would be on the base’s southeast side, stretching across Douglas Boulevard from 44th to 74th. The new perimeter would protect existing Department of Defense assets on the east side of Douglas, placing them securely inside the perimeter fence.

“We have been in conversation with Tinker officials about the issues of security for some time,” said Sean Trauschke, chair of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber. “We always want to think ahead and plan for any concerns that might jeopardize operations. At the same time, we want to look for any opportunities that make the base attractive for new missions. We did that with the former GM plant and then the BNSF rail yard. That work has been instrumental to base expansion, and we believe this work will do the same.”

Tinker AFB is the center of the aviation industry in Oklahoma City, and the industry is a primary driver of diversification beyond oil and gas. There are more than 26,000 people employed on the base, and the annual economic impact on the region is approximately $4.83 billion. Job growth in the last 10 years has been responsible for growing population and average incomes in the region, according to a study recently released by the Chamber.

The realigned perimeter also presents an opportunity for the base to redesign its current gates, making them more efficient and safer in managing the daily load of vehicles. The new gates would prevent the long backups that currently extend onto the interstates during commute times.

Mayor David Holt applauded the move. “As we continue to facilitate the growth of Tinker, this is a necessary and important next step. We cannot overlook the security enhancements and the need to encompass all operations inside the security perimeter, nor can we miss the opportunity to position the base for more workload. This is simply the right thing to do.”

Brian Maughan, chairman of the Oklahoma County Commissioners agreed. “Time and again our community has stepped up to support Tinker and this another one of those times for us to make a small sacrifice for long term gains. These changes are important to the Air Force, and they are important to Oklahoma County.”

U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) also voiced his support for the project. “As a longtime advocate of Tinker Air Force Base, I am incredibly proud of the announcement that OIA will acquire 220 acres to continue Tinker’s mission of defending our nation,” Inhofe said. “Tinker is vital to the Oklahoma City community and our state as a whole—creating billions of dollars in economic impact and thousands of jobs. It should come as no surprise that Oklahoma is continuing to invest in this vital military installation so it can acquire and support new missions. I look forward to continuing to fight for Tinker here in Congress as they thrive and expand. Congratulations to Oklahoma City—this is yet another example demonstrating how Oklahoma is the most military friendly state in the country.”

The development skeleton of the $400 million resort under construction along the Oklahoma River will start to rise from the ground over the next month according to the Chickasaw Nation Secretary of Commerce Dan Boren.

The resort will feature an 11-story, 404-room hotel; conference center space with its 4.5-acre outdoor lagoon lined with sandy beaches, 100,000-square-foot indoor water park and 33,000-square-foot family entertainment center and a 550-space parking garage.

It is projected to draw to draw 500,000 visitors annually, with 53% coming from out of state, spokesman Chad Clayborn told the Oklahoma City Council in May. The 10-year combined direct and indirect economic impact is projected to be $1.3 billion with 985 jobs per year, he said.

Chickasaw Community Bank is about to open a nearly 33,000-square-foot building  in northwest Oklahoma City to serve as its new headquarters.

Recently, the Chickasaws are involved in is the purchase of OKC's downtown’s iconic Skirvin Hilton. Ortus Hotel Investments of Oklahoma City and Sovereign Properties Holdco announced in December they had purchased the stately 111-year-old hotel along with other investors and plan a $15 million renovation.

The Skirvin Hilton is one of Oklahoma City’s most presered historic hotels as many residents and visitors know its storied past and have followed its revitalization and reopening in 2007.   The Chickasaws believe their investment is a complementary fit with their OKANA project just east of downtown.
