Report of Soccer Specific Stadium Coming to Tulsa

Placeholder, for 10,000-seat soccer specific stadium

A few of the details mentioned:

~10,000 seat capacity initially with expansion capabilities

Two potential locations in downtown Tulsa

    Horseshoe shape

    Removable sod for other events

Sounds like they're aiming for 2020 opening at the latest

Very exciting for Tulsa as they've been on the shortlist for MLS expansion in the past (not so much recently). Is this the push to get back on that shortlist?

The link you've posted goes to a 4 year old reddit thread. The source of that thread is no longer available on the web.

I'm guessing this was just yet another in a long series of potential SPS plans that have come through Tulsa over the ages...

I've been looking to see what the new ownership group has proposed; if the Tulsa Stadium Trust have plans for a new venue.  USL have given both OKC & Tulsa until 2020 to have some kind of plans for a soccer specific stadium (doesn't have to be built); however, just don't know how strict they will be on the enforcement policy.  Our Energy FC group have really pushed for a multipurpose as a part of the upcoming OKC MAPS 4 initiative.

HOK was assigned the USL stadium development task back in 2015-2016:  http://blog.iavm.org/hok-to-create-prototype-10000-seat-soccer-stadium/  HOK designed the multipurpose stadium for our Energy FC.

OKC voters will vote December 10th on a $978 million initiative that will include a $38.5 million,  8k to 10k multipurpose stadium (site not determined) if the initiative passes.  There's lots of potential for both the Roughnecks FC & Energy FC  to have SSS in place; possibly ready for the 2022-23 season.

Recall the infamous days of the NASL Tulsa Roughnecks in Skelly Stadium before TU remodeled the current Chapman Stadium; many 14K to 24K crowds supporting soccer.

Heard rumors that possibly an existing stadiums in Tulsa could be used (retrofitted for the Roughneck FC soccer franchise.  Having a new ownership shows a lot of promise for soccer in  Tulsa.

Hope you guys will contribute to this thread with any stadium news development; hope to contribute something more up-to-date.

I know some people will understandably miss the unique Roughnecks name, but I love this move. The Crest and colors are top notch in my opinion.
