OKC has a similar set up at the junction of the Kilpatrick Turnpike and Hwy 74.

I don't understand what motivates someone to stay at a hotel like that.  Just seems so desolate and depressing.

My understanding is that Trinity Ministries was(is?) a group of First Lutheran members who purchased the one story apartments catecorner to the church and converted them to senior citizens housing about a decade ago. They intended to also develop the empty lot and the nearby two story apartments between Utica and Troost owned by the Church for that purpose but got slammed by the economic meltdown. They may have now purchased that block. Still searching.

Hillcrest wrested Benedict Park from the city and wanted the church too. It was a bit of a defensive movement by the church to buy the block south of the church to keep from being hemmed in.
