The PA House of Representatives voted today to reduce its numbers from 203 to 153 and the number of Senate seats to 38 from 50. Interestingly, one of the Democratic members said he voted for it because his constituents supported the bill. To take effect, the measure must pass both the House and the Senate in two consecutive sessions before going on to a vote of the people.
It's an interesting idea with a superficial appeal, but as always, the devil is in the details. It this passes, it would require redistricting the state. With the Republicans in control of the governor's office and both legislative branches, we know what to expect. In fairness, it wouldn't be any different if Democrats were in control.
If this turns out to be wildly popular, should we expect to see a similar measure here in Oklahoma?
