Here are some excerpts from this AP story:

Buoyed by its success hosting a major fishing tournament this winter, Oklahoma's second-largest city is now dreaming of something faster, higher, stronger: the 2024 Summer Olympics.

...The Tulsa area has around 13,000 hotel rooms, far fewer than the 45,000 required, and Mavis said the city would have to finance and build an Olympic stadium to host major events...

And the price tag? It's steep: Mavis estimates it would take a $3.5 billion budget to host the Summer Games, though he insisted no local tax dollars would be used.

I suppose we should be flattered that the USOC sent a letter to Tulsa, but seriously, going from a bass fishing contest to the Olympics?  We probably stand a better chance at hosting the winter games.

I always wanted to ski down the drive way at the Vintage on Yale apartments.

We could have the giant slalom around the orange traffic barrels on 11th Street.

Not many Tulsan's would attend. We don't care much for, you know...foreigners and their strange ways. We have plenty of parking for them anyway.

I'd rather spend that kind of money on a (real) trolley system.

We could learn to tolerate foreigners that bring money.

I heard that Mitt Romney is out of work, so maybe he'd consider taking on this project.

Or maybe, Obama can go to the IOC and use his incredible sway. It worked out so well with Chicago.   Tongue

As for Romney:

They would have to put in a trolley, train, monorail and segway rental to get the visitors to and from venues.

Well, if we could get all of that and get someone else to pay for it, let's go for it.

We are not THAT bad,,, are we? lol.

example...

"The main gym floors at our high school and our town’s YMCA have lines for basketball and volleyball. There is also a full-sized basketball court at the middle school, but the floor is pretty old and it is slippery even if it’s just been swept."

though this is a fairly accurate picture of of our mass transit infrastructure... (how does Tulsa plan to solve that issue?)

"We also have a bus that looks like a trolley car that we bring out for special events -- town festivals, parades, etc. -- that would be available for the Olympics."

There is that 'turnpike school of thought' going there....!
