Funny how we hardly even acknowledge that the largest demographic in the United States even exists.  Whites are almost always lumped into one group and described as being privileged and members of the elite.  Not true.  The largest class in the United States is the lower class and the largest group in the lower class is White.

Check this out against your beliefs:  Most welfare recipients are White.

Remember Martin Luther Kings’ Tent City?  Apparently King was attempting to redraw the civil rights movement as an economic struggle and not a racial one.  He was trying to develop common ground among all poor people.

But I suspect that poor Whites have been the weak link in any hoped for coalition of the lower class and they have most likely been responsible for handing power to the Republicans in spite of the fact that the Republican party is the party of the upper class.

The political party that can successful portray itself as an advocate for poor Whites might gain a substantial voting block.  I guess the starting point would be to acknowledge that many White people are anything but privileged.
