The Lingerie Football League will not be expanding to Oklahoma City.

LFL chairman Mitchell Mortaza said in a statement Tuesday that the league had abandoned its plans for a team in the city following comments critical of the league from Oklahoma City mayor Mick Cornett.

"Due to the blatant negative statements Mayor Cornett has made and his influence over the governing body that would ultimately decide whether the LFL could lease the Cox Convention Center or Oklahoma City Arena, we have sadly chosen to no longer explore OKC as an expansion market or the LFL," Mortaza said. "It is unfortunate, especially considering over 70 percent of Oklahomans polled on The Oklahoman's web site disagreed with Mayor Cornett's stance."

The league was looking to expand into Oklahoma City for the 2011 season which is scheduled to begin in August.

Players play in hockey-style helmets, elbow pads, bras, panties and garters.

When news of the league's intentions surfaced, Cornett said he was not in favor of the league coming to Oklahoma City.

After Cornett's comments were reported, the league said it would meet this week to reexamine its expansion plans.

“Unfortunately, it is the people that ultimately lose in this outcome,” Mortaza continued.

I'm guessing it really ain't the mayor's call.  And if they know what a gem of a mayor we have, they'd be smart to just let him continue with his finger painting...

Cornett is the same kind of idiot Dewey is.

Dewey likened LFL to mud wrestling - not in the least!  Cain's Ballroom used to have mud wrestling, and it was MUCH better than LFL!!  Sad day when it stopped in Tulsa!

Maybe they could play at the Spank in Bixby or Glenpool's new center if Bartlet (sic) doesn't want them. I love the league president's comment that he thought they were expanding to Oklahoma, not North Korea.

I really don't get the big deal. If these guys can draw a crowd with such a hokey concept, it's tax revenue. So long as they aren't looking for tax handouts.

Why not?  Didn't the Thunder get that deal?

They need to be told that Screwy Dewey doesn't speak for us.  And Screwy Dewey needs to stick to city concerns and not business concerns.  I have been wanting to get a road trip to see some of these games, but would much prefer being able to see them locally.
