Instead of clicking the login button in the upper right corner, click the login text (as in, "Welcome Guest, please login or register").  That will take you to the full login screen.

Bingo!  That was it.  Thanks.

Here's a gripe and two questions:

Gripe first:  This is especially bad when people have a bunch of stuff in their profile like avatars, taglines, etc... Even if they post a single sentence, it takes up 3/4 of my screen.
Here's an example:

(I bet this is really annoying for people who read it on Blackberries, etc.)

Question 1: Can we get a spell checker?  (Or am I just not seeing it?)

Question 2: We used to be able to provide alternate language for internet links.  This is especially nice when the web address is two or three lines long.  Now, when you insert a link, it doesn't give you an option to provide alternate language.  It just shows the complete URL address.  Any way to change this?

Hey, I've been made an example!  I still think it's mostly cosmetic, but quite likely a valid issue.

Should be a little red squiggly line under the misspelled word.  I missed it at first.

I don't remember if there was a link for that in the last version of the forum.  Manually, it's the same as the old version, except you have to take out the quotation marks.

Here's the code.  * has been added so it doesn't work.  If you take out the two * it should link up.

Without the two *, it looks like this:

Question 1:

Spell checkers for forums are quite heavy in the server load department; that is why most of the free solutions don't have them.  If you absolutely need a spell checker, either install IE7Pro (IE addon) or use Firefox 3 and above.  Both of these have inbuilt spell checkers.

Question 2:

Yes.

Provides you with this:

I was hoping to do the alternate language thing w/o having to think about HTML coding. (We used to have a cute little field that you just typed in, and it would supply the coding behind the scenes.)

By the way, I can't spell worth a darn, but I did notice a little typo on the description of the Entertainment Forum:

"New album or movie coming out that you're just dieing to talk about? Discuss it here."

Might want to change that to "dying."

There is a button in the reply screen that adds the "" part to the reply and you just have to add the link in between. Obviously, this won't give it the pretty name. You have to just know how like in Hoss's example.

It was a helpful feature that is not available in current SMF code. I've seen requests for an add-on to do it but the code monkeys seem to think that the feature is "just annoying"

SMF 2.0 (which has been in beta since Dick Clark was in High School) does have this feature however.

Will fix that.

Mobile devices look about the same. Right now it is taking up a lot of space because we have a bunch of bells and whistles turned on to give people a feel for all the new features. Karma takes up a big chunk of that area by itself. I assume at some point we'll eliminate features due to unpopularity and it will look better.

Bonus: it motivates people to post more than one sentence.

Spell Check only works on some servers. Unfortunately there is only one server that would allow us to keep our data. Also, as mentioned before, spellcheck puts a huge load on the server and it will be integrated in every browser shortly.

The thread titles are hard to read...not enough contrast with the light blue font on the "butter" background.  Please consider making it darker, or just black for thread titles.

I darkened it. Some older browsers weren't handling the previous color correctly and displaying it too light. Let me know if it looks better.

Is there not a feature available to remove the extra stuff (avatars, user tags, and whatever else) on posts that are shorter than a certain length?

http://tulsanow.org/forum/ no longer works....
it resolves, just kicks back a blank page.

Your isp has issues with DNS resolution then, because I get to it just fine.  Have you tried another website leaving out the WWW on the front?

You might download another theme that has the user info above the post instead of the left, you could use the post template and replace the one on this theme. That way it takes less room and there is more room for content.

Sorry if its not my place just thinking out loud. I do that allot.

Also SMF has spell check if the correct server extensions are installed. A better solution though is to use firefox or other browsers with spell check built in.
