I would like to see Tulsa develop policies that encourage and focus more on repurposing or renovating existing buildings and when that is not possible, to move existing buildings or deconstruct them instead of demolition so building materials can be reused or recycled instead of winding up in a landfill. This city desperately needs a comprehensive construction waste reuse or recycling program/facility.

In addition I'd like to see the fee for a demolition license raised substantially. Those planning a demolition could get credits for recycling materials from the site.

Construction sites are huge air polluters. I'd like to see emission controls required on the heavy equipment and generators operating on construction sites. Not just to protect our air quality, but also to protect the health of the workers on construction sites.

This is the proposal I presented last year at an AIA green conference. I have some new information and am presenting it again at OU-Tulsa at the GoGreen! conference October 3rd and 4th.

I didn't know about that RM, I hope your proposal is taken seriously and adopted.
