Quote from: Urban Enthusiast on May 24, 2026, 01:26:38 PMI did not realize this area was so popular back then.  Thirty years is actually quite recent in the scheme of things.  I guess this area was eclipsed by other entertainment areas (Brookside, Cherry Street, and downtown).  I am glad to see it is coming back to life.

It was a big draw in the 90s. In the 70s too when the legendary Nine of Cups was there. That was before my time but I have heard of a lot of very famous people there with Leon Russell and company. Someone older than me would have to talk about that era.

Fence has gone up around the old Brookside Baptist. Looks like demo may be coming soon.

Are you referring to the new parking garage construction?  I think you must have been in the wrong location.  This is between 7th and 8th, and Boulder and Main.  All the nice trees that encircled the surface lot and the old TFCU building are gone.  And there is a construction fence all around it.

Quote from: Urban Enthusiast on May 18, 2026, 10:25:16 AMIndeed, they did do a tremendous job with the replacement.  The new buildings look like they are right out of the 1920s.  That whole area is coming more to life.

I'm getting old. I used to hang out there 30 years ago and that area was completely mobbed on weekends. Thousands of people there at SROs, Bostons, Hoffbrau and The Brick. There were so many people even in the street you couldn't really drive down 18th. Lines for blocks at all of the bars, Each with live music or a DJ at SROs. It was the bar district for the city. The bars were so busy they all had beer troughs at the doors selling beer and shot girls walking around because actually getting to the bar was nearly impossible.

For the younger crowd. SROs was a two level dance club where Tacos x Mescal is, Bostons was where The Shrine is, Hoffbrau was in the building where Burn Co burned and The Brick was in the building where the empty lot is now next to The Shrine. Mercury Lounge was still a gas station that would always have to two cars in the mornings.

I  need to do a drive-by.  I haven't seen the progress on this development in some time.

I heard about the sale, but I was not aware  of the planned improvements.  That's great to hear.  It would be cool if they could incorporate a hotel and some residential as well.

Quote from: ComeOnBenjals on May 12, 2026, 11:28:41 AMThe 18th and Boston area is really turning into something. Starting to have some real nice density.

American Solera announced they're building a location at that old gas station on 18th and Cincinnati.

Dante's Pizza is taking over the old Solera building on 18th

As sad as Burnco's fire was.. they did a tremendous job with the replacement. There's some additional work on some buildings further north on Boston as well. More office/retail spaces as I can tell.

Indeed, they did do a tremendous job with the replacement.  The new buildings look like they are right out of the 1920s.  That whole area is coming more to life.

Quote from: ComeOnBenjals on May 12, 2026, 12:15:26 PMTulsa Metro is continuing to grow! Overall, growth across the country has slowed down, but Tulsa County/MSA is still chugging along nicely.

2025 Estimate: 1,069,273
2024-2025 Net change: 8,193
2024-2025 Percentage change: .772% (for reference % change from 2023-2024 was 1.22%)
2020-2025 Net Change : 51,924
2020-2025 Percentage Change : 5.104%

Of note, Tulsa County was estimated to have grown more than Oklahoma County from 2024-2025.

Oklahoma County: 822,125 | 3927 | .48%
Tulsa County: 698,782 | 4100 | .59%

The slowing rate is not Tulsa, nationally immigration is down, deportations, forced and voluntary, are up and births are way down. This has massive and bad implications if it continues and our population ages. Thanks Trump.
