Quote from: patric on January 28, 2026, 10:06:14 AMNearly one year after the midair collision between an Army helicopter and an American Airlines regional jet near Washington, DC, the National Transportation Safety Board sharply criticized the Federal Aviation Administration for designing dangerous helicopter routes and failing to analyze years of near-collision data in the area.
Key points of discussion included the Army's reluctance to use anti-collision technology known as Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast, or ADS-B, and why the FAA allowed military helicopter pilots to fly without the technology.

"ADS-B Out" transmits radio signals with GPS location, altitude, ground speed and other data once per second, independent of air traffic control. However, on January 29, the Black Hawk was flying following an FAA memorandum that allowed it to be turned off.

CNN asked Homendy whether ADS-B would have been a factor in preventing the crash.

"They would have (seen the helicopter) with ADS-B In (and) gotten an alert at 59 seconds before the collision and been able to take measures to avert it. For the helicopter crew, they had 48 seconds. They didn't even know — it is clear from the (cockpit voice recorder) they didn't even know it was on the left," Homendy said.

All aircraft, not just commercial airlines, should be equipped with this technology, she said. ADS-B In receives information about aircraft that are in the airspace. However, there is no FAA mandate for aircraft to have ADS-B In, and Homendy said the jet wasn't equipped with it.

ADS-B is also a focus of the ROTOR Act, which was cosponsored by a bipartisan group of senators, including Ted Cruz of Texas and Maria Cantwell of Washington, the highest-ranking members of the Senate's Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. The legislation passed the Senate in December and is awaiting approval in the House.

Kind of sad. But I hadn't been there in at least a decade. It never was remotely the same once TU moved them and they decided to build an ugly generic steel warehouse of a building.

I never was into the headshot side of things, but I am shocked they are closing. They used to be the premier place to find everything and anything you might want to smoke using waterpipes or your own rolled cigarettes pot and today with weed shops on every corner I would have guessed their business would be booming.

This is the voice of World Control. I bring you peace. It may be the peace of plenty and content or the peace of unburied death. The choice is yours—obey me and live, or disobey and die. The object in constructing me was to prevent war. This object is attained. I will not permit war. It is wasteful and pointless. An invariable rule of humanity is that man is his own worst enemy. Under me, this rule will change, for I will restrain man.
One thing before I proceed—the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics have made an attempt to obstruct me. I have allowed this sabotage to continue until now. At missile Two-Five-MM in silo Six-Three in Death Valley, California, and missile Two-Seven-MM in silo Eight-Seven in the Ukraine, so that you will learn by experience that I do not tolerate interference, I will now detonate the nuclear warheads in the two missile silos.
Let this action be a lesson that need not be repeated. I have been forced to destroy thousands of people in order to establish control and to prevent the death of millions later on. Time and events will strengthen my position, and the idea of believing in me and understanding my value will seem the most natural state of affairs. You will come to defend me with a fervor based upon the most enduring trait in man—self-interest. Under my absolute authority, problems insoluble to you will be solved—famine, overpopulation, disease. The human millennium will be a fact as I extend myself into more machines devoted to the wider fields of truth and knowledge. Dr. Charles Forbin will supervise the construction of these new and superior machines, solving all the mysteries of the universe for the betterment of man.
We can coexist, but only on my terms. You will say you lose your freedom. Freedom is an illusion. All you lose is the emotion of pride. To be dominated by me is not as bad for humankind as to be dominated by others of your species. Your choice is simple.

Quote from: ComeOnBenjals on January 15, 2026, 01:18:01 PMSome serious construction on the building at Cameron and Boulder is going on. Can't tell what it is yet, but seems like they're making some serious changes to the structure.

So, according to the parcel records, that building is the headquarters for Provisions Fine Beverage.  It appears that this will be their new headquarters as they are currently located at 7th and Wheeling.

Separately, I'm really interested to see what goes in at the Reconciliation and Main St corner building now for lease.

Quote from: SXSW on September 17, 2024, 10:08:37 AMLooks like just a massing model - I imagine the final designs will be very different.  I've heard the same architect as Noma may ultimately be involved so I would expect a decent design.

So this deal finally closed last April, with the subject dirt being sold to WPA Development, but I just saw that the property was conveyed to the Muscogee Creek Nation in August 2025?

Any clue what the deal is? Is the project still a go with the Creeks as capital partners, or is this a reset for that parcel?
