Title: Dallas 'Urban Design Element' for Tulsa Post by: kwa3 on January 25, 2006, 03:34:49 pm The new Master Plan in Dallas includes an urban design element. Does Tulsa even have an official design plan?
The theme of this part of the Dallas plan is pedestrian-oriented design even for primarily car-oriented areas. Moreover, it is clearly a successful policy they are implementing rather than just a bunch of talk. Most of the example photos are from Dallas. They are building out from an 'urban fabric', created in the last decade. Within a decade or two they will be a much larger patchwork of cool, walkable neighborhoods. This is a huge trend and what growing numbers of Americans expect to see in a successful city (not just in a city's downtown but in its smaller, residential neighborhoods as well). Tulsa is so behind in this transition. We need to make up for a lost decade and accelerate this change in Tulsa.
