Title: Midtown Redux Study Post by: Double A on January 22, 2006, 02:34:07 am Currently around YOUR Neighborhood, City Leaders are making changes that will affect the integrity of your neighborhood and your quality of life. Historic Homes and Buildings are being demolished at an alarming rate, usually to make way for surface parking lots. Infill development inappropriate to the look and feel of your older, historic neighborhood is being constructed along the commercial corridors abutting your neighborhood. Is this OK with you? The Yorktown Neighborhood Association and others requested City Councilor for District 4, Tom Baker, to address the process of redevelopment in this area and to include the neighborhoods in the decision-making process. As a result, Councilor Baker and the City of Tulsa Urban Development Department asked the University Of Oklahoma College Of Architecture Urban Design Studio to study the effects Commercial Infill Development has on Historic Neighborhoods. They are studying Utica from 11th to 21st Streets and 15th St. from Peoria to Lewis. A pilot area in Midtown Tulsa including Swan Lake, Yorktown and Gillette Historic Neighborhoods as well as other older neighborhoods within a one square mile area surrounding the intersection of commercial corridors 15th Street and Utica Avenue will serve as a laboratory for the study. It is hoped that the results of the study may be generalized and applied to other areas of the city. Please plan to attend the residents meetings, as this is your chance to have input into future redevelopment affecting your neighborhood.
