Better chance to have the new fairgrounds arena do that, as the footprint is better for the ECHL. I'd love to have that old rivalry back, but the right owners (read that as anyone not with the last name of Funk) will have to be the ones to run the team.

Funks have invested in a new practice facility in northeast Oklahoma City teamed with Integris Oklahoma Hospitals and will receive $37 million to build a multipurpose stadium (8,000 - 10,000 seat range) for OKC outdoor sports capable of expansion beyond 20,000 at a yet-to-be determined site. The new coliseum will be 'booked' upon construction. The coliseum will be crafted for horse shows & events; next to the new 200,000 sq. ft., Bennett Events Center poised to handle related trades shows and events. Coliseum will seat 7,000 for ice hockey; remind you, there are no immediate plans for an ice plant for the new coliseum; nor has the city ever mentioned the new coliseum as a site for ice hockey. The current Cox Center does have an ice plant underneath the arena floor. Although many may disagree, IMHO, the old Myriad is to valuable to be demolished--with 963 underground parking spaces and overflow space if needed. City will need the extra 100,000 sq. ft exhibition hall, 16,000 sq. ft., ballroom and extra room space to continue to attract quality tier II conventions to OKC. |
