Police Fatally Shot a Man During a Swatting Hoax

Two individuals were playing Call of Duty and got into an argument online over a game with a $1.50 wager. One of them, a person with the Twitter handle @SWauTistic, threatened to swat user @7aLeNT. The latter then provided an address that wasn't actually their own in response to the threat. Shortly thereafter, @SWauTistic allegedly called in the false report, which led to a police response at the provided address. Andrew Finch, who lived at the address, reportedly went to the front door in response to the commotion and was shot. "As he came to the front door, one of our officers discharged his weapon," said (Deputy Police Chief Troy) Livingston.

Also it's not a new thing, even that little Canadian girl, Justin Bieber, has been the victim.

The swatter blames the police, the police blame the swatter.

The punk that called the city hall switchboard (instead of 911, which should have itself raised caution flags) bragged openly about previous swattings and claimed that he was Scott-free because the target state had no jurisdiction.  That must change, as must the lax attitude at&t, Verizon etc. take to Caller ID spoofing.
On the other end, people who are easily frightened, tweakin, or just dont know where to rest their finger when holding a gun should not be cops.

Officers were called sometime after 6 p.m. to a house in the 600 block of South Atlanta Avenue, according to Cpl. Wyett Poth.

He called the false report of a shooting “swatting,” the practice of sending emergency services to someone else’s address. Poth said police think someone who was mad at someone in the home made the call.

A California man was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison for making a hoax 911 call about a hostage situation in Kansas that ended up with police fatally shooting an innocent man at that address.

Tyler Rai Barriss pleaded guilty in November to a total of 51 charges stemming from phony emergency calls he made, including one count of making a false report resulting in a death. He admitted to years of "swatting," the act of falsely reporting a serious crime with the aim of drawing a massive police response to the home of an unsuspecting target.

On Dec. 28, 2017, Barriss, who lives in Los Angeles, contacted police to say he was at a home in Wichita, Kansas, where he claimed he had fatally shot his father and was holding the rest of the family hostage.

Responding officers demanded that anyone inside that McCormick Street home come out.

Confused, Andrew Finch, 28, stepped outside where an officer opened fire killing him, officials said.
