Title: Downtown trivia....
Post by: PonderInc on April 28, 2017, 02:25:56 pm
It's pretty amazing how much downtown has changed in just a few short years.

Bragging rights to the first person who can identify what perfectly respectable establishment now occupies this space:

I went to Bad Girls' once in college right after I turned 21.  Downtown was really depressing back then and this place was pretty sad.  We also went to a grungy place where Dilly Diner now is.  So much has changed.

Midtown Adult Theater, it is!

It could be used as an example of what not to do when "upgrading" a historic building.

Wow.  That's turrible.  I still don't know how that place stays open with rising popularity of that area and the internet.

OK, here's one that's too easy.  I'll even give you two versions:

I wonder if these features are underneath the current facade and can be restored when that place finally folds.

Elgin Park.  I forget if it was "Carsons" or "East End" but it's another skeezy place I happened to visit while in college.

Elgin Park is the winner.  (I told you that one was easy.)

This one is just because I'm feeling sorry for myself.  I'm definitely grateful that the Williams Cos is still around, and that they are dedicated to Tulsa and the local community.  But... if I'm right about the location of this photo, this is 2nd Street looking east towards Main.  We traded these buildings for mall that lasted a little more than a decade, and then became cubicle space at the Williams Resource Center...

Dam dude.   Brutal.

I think it's interesting that the places where downtown's renaissance is focused are the places that were so forlorn, so forgotten, and so far from the business core that nobody bothered to tear them down for parking.  The best thing that could happen for an urban district in Tulsa was to be forgotten from 1950-1990.

I'm pretty sure no-one wants to go digging.

Yes, sadly.  2nd and Main, looking south.
