The sudden resignation became effective immediately. I want to begin the healing process and move the lodge forward, Stephens said. Raising the wages and the number of officers even as every other department takes cuts. Tulsa police are well compensated even compared to well respected large departments like Houston. We have Officer level positions making $90k+ and almost everyone can play the system for $10k plus in OT, longevity pay, take home car, etc. etc. etc. Out of 750 officers, more than 125 make in excess of $90k. Hell, the average cop in Tulsa makes more than the average engineer in Tulsa, and twice what the average teacher makes.
