Number One Daughter and I went to Maxxwell's for breakfast this morning. I ordered an omelet without cheese, a biscuit, hash browns, and coffee. Lyndsay ordered the biscuits and gravy. It came with three enormous slices of bacon. I ended up eating one as it was too much for my skinny daughter. Our server was friendly and smiling, and she brought the food quickly. The coffee was excellent, strong without a hint of bitterness. Our bill came to just under twenty dollars. My only quibble is the limited menu, but in all honesty, I don't need an overwhelming number of choices for breakfast, though good coffee is essential.

The restaurant offers a Sunday five dollar hamburger special, and since She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed is the family hamburger aficionado, we'll return to try it.

I was intrigued by the old photos of Tulsa. It's worth a trip to the restaurant (from my point of view) for those alone. There's an especially wonderful shot of downtown on VE day. The vintage lighting and embossed tin ceiling add to the Route 66 ambiance.

Ed, my wife and I went there on Valentines evening. Lucky to find a place where the wait wasn't long. They moved us in quickly. We loved the place! The ambiance was nice, the wait staff seemed to be enjoying life and the menu was affordable. They had a special V day menu with lots of goodies included but we didn't do that one. I think I had the rib-eye steak sandwich which was good and the wife had a chicken something. Two beers and we were done. Very nice evening. I am anxious to recommend it and the nearby hotel to family if they ever visit us again.

The last time I was in that building it was the paint shop for Wilkerson Chevrolet! Quite a change.

I was in the adjacent hotel when the owner(?) was renovating it. He said when it was constructed, the building was on the edge of town and had been a grocery store. His plan was to re-do it as an upscale hotel, complete with fireplaces in the rooms. I have a few badly exposed shots of the interior.

Is this in the Campbell Hotel building around 11th & Delaware?

Yes Conan. They also have a cool small bar.

I really like the smoky mac and cheese. Not from a box, has hatch chilies, chicken and little smokies in it.
