Title: The Rusty Crane
Post by: erfalf on July 25, 2012, 07:04:13 am
Saw this linked from the Drillers Facebook page. Anyone know anything else about this or Lee Brennan (the big guy in all the videos)?

Either way it's good news to see some activity in the blocks imediately adjacent to the ball park (along with Greenarch).

Looking forward to this.

Jeremy Reed is opening a bar at Archer and Boulder, it looks very close to done.

Noticed their sign yesterday. It's around the back side of the building, facing the Brady Entrance to the ballpark. Is this where the restaurant itself is going? Odd spot from a visibility standpoint, if so.

They have a sign on Detroit as well.  I believe the entrance is in the alley.

Anyone know details on cuisine, drinks, etc?

This cheese covered burrito is in their FB photos.

We have a shortage of restaurants serving various combinations of cheese and grease.

Yea, the NE side of the building.
Guess it will help catch the people parking in those big lots between it and the ballpark.

Am I the only one who finds the name a bit odd?

I was thinking more along the line of corroded construction equipment.

Your picture didn't show at work.  I think our IT filters Flickr among other sites.

I know where I work now (changes August 6th, but that's another story) fliters youtube, but not flickr.  They also filter Facebook, but a lot of the photos can still be posted from there and I see them.  Our IT guys don't realize they use fbcdn.com as their media domain.

A quick google image search proves a Rusty Crane to be a worthless tool. Some examples:

I believe one of his investors' last name is Crain.  Perhaps his first is "Rusty."

Probably a better name than the Rusty Trombone.

Looks like it will be a fun place.  Lee is one of my wife's good friends.  He's a really nice guy with gobs of restaurant management experience.

Meh, wasn't really a villain in "Inception"...kinda neutral there.  But key story point for sure.

But yes, he likes using familiar actors.

Good to see Lee Brennan getting the opportunity to open up a business here in town. I worked with him at Jason's Deli during college and he was a great guy by all accounts.

Has anyone been? It opened on Tuesday.

The Menu: http://www.facebook.com/#!/media/set/?set=a.236296629833184.54505.177226335740214&type=1 (http://www.facebook.com/#!/media/set/?set=a.236296629833184.54505.177226335740214&type=1)

Which includes lunch fare designed to keep you from getting the after lunch sleepies.

I went last week. The person I went with got fish tacos, which he said were very good. I had a burger, which was good. But their sweet potato fries were the best I've ever had. Very cool atmosphere and great patio. Parking and entrances were slightly confusing but I'll trust they get that worked out. Very glad this place is open!

All I read leading up to (and after) its opening was that their kitchen was going to be open until 2am. Went the first Saturday night. The kitchen was closed. Called ahead this past Saturday night, the kitchen was closed. Both times were a little after midnight.

Anyone had any luck with the promised late-night hours? I wonder if they've already given up on that plan, or maybe I'll have better luck come spring/summer.

Like an ill-fated decision to eat at taco bell because every local restaurant is closed?

Ate there with my dad today.
Great food. Will certainly go back to try other things.
We had the Trojan Horse. It was great but a little heavy on the Feta.
We also had the ambassador. It was simply excellent. The tabouli looked different than any I had before but was outstanding.
Great salsa and chips, the guac is a little heavy on lime but still good.
Service was almost too good, lol. I forgot how many times we were asked if we needed more chips, salsa, or refills.
The place has a great feel to it too.

Will be back for lunch, I want to take my wife there for dinner, and it seems like a great place to grab a drink after work.

Didn't get to eat there due to the aforementioned issues with kitchen hours.

So I ordered a Guinness. Menu said $8 (20oz glass, I believe). I thought that was a bit high. Got the bill and saw that didn't include our state's tax on liquor (13.5%). So the total for one Guiness is $9.08.

And I've bought beers for $20-25 before (really good beers in other states). But Guinness does not qualify as really good beer. It's slightly better than Bud, Miller, Coors.

I know we had a thread on it before, about a group suing for the practice of adding that tax on top of the advertised price, which they say is illegal. I can't find any updates on the suit's progress.

I declare you crazy.

I agree, that's a hell of a high cost for any beer.

Another try at eating there, another failure. The kitchen was closed as of midnight on a Friday night.

So much for the much-publicized "kitchen open until 2am." It wasn't open that late the first Saturday night they were in business. It wasn't any other time I tried.

I do wonder if they ever actually stayed open until 2am or just gave up on that concept without actually trying it (and closing it way earlier because business is slow at that point does not count as trying).

Maybe they meant the kitchen would be open until 2am once. They just forgot to let anybody know what day that was.
