Title: (PROJECT) Guthrie Park Post by: sgrizzle on February 29, 2012, 02:58:37 pm Located between the Mathews Warehouse building (currently being redeveloped by Kaiser/Philbrook/Gilcrease) and the new Griffin Communications building, this one block park replaced a semi-truck freight yard and contains a geothermal plant which will supply businesses in the brady district and also provide many other public amenities. It it currently under construction.

I've been wondering what the structure is that's going up on the Brady Park site... I thought I remembered it was going to be an amphitheater of some sort, but I also hadn't seen any renderings. I really like the "loggia" along Brady because it will enhance the pedestrian friendly nature of the area between the other buildings on Brady and the Ballpark/Greenwood and Blue Dome districts. The Matthews Warehouse et al are not going to be super pedestrian friendly and a park space right across from that could have made a pedestrian "unfriendly" gap in the area. But this loggia right across the street will help and act as an added comfortable place to walk along that particular block. It can offer shade in the hot summer, some protection from the rain etc. What could have been a potential gap in the fabric of the area, will with the loggia be MUCH more pedestrian frienly. The trees along that street will help make the area feel nicer to walk along as well. Now, if someone would just build something in that lot along the street just to the east we could really have some good connection between the various districts. Oh, and the Pavilion looks quite snazzy.

I've never had a problem. Of course the longest and most out of sight I ever leave mine locked up is for Drillers games. But I ride a dinged up 20-year-old mountain bike.I don't think local criminals here would even know how to determine whether a bike is worth anything. They'd probably just nab the shiny new walmart bike. If not they ride them around and trade them to others. When they break down they leave them wherever or throw em in the river.
Last summer I saw a bike whose rear wheel was locked to a pole by the Blue Rose on the river. The next day it was missing it's front wheel. The next day it's seat was missing. The following day the pedals and handlebars were gone. Finally, all that was left was a frame, a wheel and a lock. All of this must have happened in front of runners, bikers and nearby diners. It was funny to watch it slowly disappear. Bikes are one of those things we could mass produce and leave in public places for general use and receive great benefit. A good path bike isn't that hard or complicated to make. The bikes would be instantly recognizable as muni bikes and unsaleable. Transients would benefit. Pawn shops would hate it. He was trying to reposition them and the wind was blowing them away before he could put down the sand bags. The walk over was especially fun. If I'd had a wing suit, I'm pretty sure I could have glided all the way over. The symphony was excellent and the fire works were great (if a little out of synch with the Tchaikovsky) I can't wait to try the food at Lucky's...the menu is killer and I'm a sucker for empanadas. The tacos, on the other hand, were quite good and so was the salsa that came with them. Several other things on the menu looked interesting; I can't wait to try them. The kiosk used to order is clunky and needs a lot of work. Not to mention there needs to be more than one and perhaps one needs to be outside of the restaurant area. In today's iPhone world, I would suggest an app instead.

The folks who run the race riot memorial park a couple blocks away have allowed that element to severely curtail enjoyment of their park for the rest of us, what with walls around the whole thing and it only being open a few hours a day. I can't find any hours online, either. Without signage or anything to draw people in, I'm not seeing how that place is going to survive on the many non-event nights, of which there are many now that we're entering the colder months. I'm not a big fan of its current location squeezed between the federal courthouse and the BOK Center. Feels cramped and small and doesn't leave much room to expand.

I took my toddler son for lunch one day and we spent about $25 and there was nothing on the menu that was really palatable for him and he's not a picky eater. Plain and simple, the place needs a sign you can see from Cincinnati and Cameron, posted hours, and and open sign. I tried to see if it was open for lunch last Fri.. Only by not being able to open the locked door was it possible to determine.
