Title: Tulsa Races
Post by: sauerkraut on September 07, 2011, 01:41:51 pm
Is anyone here planning to run any races in Tulsa? I just ran in the "Run For The Son"  5K Race  on Labor Day, (ParkView Baptist Church race Sheridan & 60th) and I came in with grim time results a bit over 27:00+, and 4th place in my age group..The course was a bit hilly I'm not too good on hills that may of accounted for my poor times.. I ran the Hunger 5K back in June with a simular time... This Saturday there is another race "Route 66 CPA 5K" is anyone here planning to run it? It starts & finishs at the H.A. Chapman Stadium on 11th street. I'm trying to beat my PR 5K time of 25:33 and keep coming up too slow. October 29th is the famous Tulsa Run 15K dunno if I'll enter that it'll be crowded. I find longer races are more easy to run than a 5K. The 5K race I ran on Labor Day offered a big breakfast for the runners after the race and fun & games all day long. They also had many door prizes. :)

All my racing is done on two wheels these days with the exception of the McNellie's Pub Run in November.  Nothing like running on a full stomach of Guiness.

That may be the most 'Tulsa' thing said this year.  :)

I just ran the "Route 66 CPA" 5K race this morning, over 400 runners took part. I improved my time but still fell short of my 25:33 goal my personal record 5K time... I came in 3rd place in my age group with a time of 26:07. The FinishLine was in the Chapman stadium ball park, as I was turning the corner to go into the ballpark I saw the FinishLine clock reading 25:54, 25:55, 25:56 and so on so I knew then I missed my goal. The last 100 meters before the turn was a uphill grade and that slowed me down. It was still a ton of fun everyone had a good time. I met some other runners who also ran in the 5K race on LaborDay last week.

As a result of the race I did get two free tickets to a ballgame on November 12, 2011 that I can't use if anyone wants 'em let me know. The next big race is the Tulsa 15K run October 29th, 2011-  9.3 miles- If I can hold a good pace I should be able to finish it in the upper 80's- but not likely. :D

My personal best for running a mile was 5:45. Way back in Jr. High school. I was never able to even come close again. Then I was happy to run multiple miles at around 7:30 in my 30's. Then 8:30 in my 40's.

I don't time myself now.

5 years ago I did a 5K in 22:05... back when I was doing a ton of the local 5K races, 10Ks and Tulsa runs
I don't do nearly as much running or cardio now and would probably struggle to break 26-min

It would take too long to go over everything that would happen around me if I tried to run a significant distance.

That is some very impressive running, I ran alot faster too when I was younger. I was on the track team in school however, I don't have a clue of my times from back then- I didn't pay that much attention to them. According to the race results I did a Kilometer at the pace of 5:14, one Kiometer is about 5/8 of a mile. Running is a sport I really enjoy alot, before a  race there is alot of excitement in the air, after the race it feels like a big let down everything is over. My 3rd place prize was a clay coffee mug- white with the blue Route 66 CPA logo on it and the date September 10, 2011.

You could time my 5K with a calendar right now.

October 29th is the Tulsa Run 15K, (9.3 Miles) not sure if I'll enter it, I guess a few thousand runners enter it since it's a very popular race. I don't expect to win anything in that race if I sign up, but I may run it for the sport of it and see how I do. I figure I'll just go at my regular jogging pace, what ever my time is so be it. I can do 6 mile runs in the mid 50's.
