I know its a movie. But its more like a event. If you have not seen it yet. You really need too. Spring for the 3-D price, its really worth it.
It looks great, It sounds great and the story is not as bad as some critics have said. There really is not much more they could try and knock when its near perfect.

The story, while not novel or full of "suprising twists", was solid and very well executed none the less, so I personally had no beef with that aspect.  But I absolutely agree that the movie is worth going to see.  I really enjoyed it and may go see it again on the big screen.  I was blown away by the imagery, it amazes me how far computer generated graphics have come.  Then layering that with well done 3-D,,, well you knew you were watching the future of entertainment (for real this time lol). This aint your grandpas 3-D, nor was it full of cutsey "hey look at this bit here in 3-D" stunts.  It was more like you entered the scene versus the "something flying or pointing out at you" stuff. When someone almost fell off a cliff, you grabbed your chair feeling the vertigo. There was one scene where the main character was being chased by this large creature,,, I have never jumped and squirmed so many times in one movie lol.

Is this something where if you almost threw-up watching cloverfield, you should stay away from the 3d version?

Not the same, although if you are prone to this issue you should make sure you focus on the main action in the scene. In 3d films there are background elements that are intentionally out of focus and if your eyes wander to those elements, there is some possibility of experiencing motion sickness because your brain is confused and trying to refocus.

Worse than "Dune"?

Worse than "Exorcist II"?

Worse than "Plan 9 from Outer Space"?

If you're serious, that's serious scaling the heights/depths of badness there.

I've got more...

"Napoleon Dynamite" (I honestly got up and left the theater on this one)
"Gigli" (saw this perusing the premium channels a couple of years ago; it was like a train wreck)

Try it again in the comfort of your own home.  Try to expand your mind in some way and you'll enjoy it.

It hits me like Raising Arizona.  Funnier each time.

edited to say:  "gigli" is a pile of buffalo crap topped off with runny lizard diarrhea and everyone involved should be electroshocked until sterile.

How could you leave "Ishtar" or "Bonfire of The Vanities" off the all-time movie sh!t list?

Not even close... took my daughter (her idea) when it was in the theatre a couple of years ago and we stayed all the way through just to prove we could.

won't refer to 'em if I haven't seen 'em!  I was forewarned on those.   ;D

And to those who say to watch it (Napoleon Dynamite) in the comfort of my own home, I've tried.  More than once.  Had to change the channel because it felt like the intelligence was leaking out of my head each time.

A fat spliff or multiple cold beers doesn't hurt with the comprehension factor on Napoleon Dynamite.  The humor is very droll, but I have to admit with two teenage daughters, I'm somewhat of a fan of it.

Good friend of mine at work went on and on about it, enough so that I tried it two more times...one of those times was a night I had been hammering back the cold ones, but it didn't help any.  Oh well, they say one mans trash...

Avatar is great.  I went to see it on the IMAX in 3D.  Go see it at the IMAX if you can.  A lady nearby me said she did not want to leave when it was over because she wanted to stay in that virtual world a little longer.  I like that Avatar pulls you into the movie and makes it an experience rather than just watching a movie.  Peter Jackson and others have looked into using similar cameras and effects from Avatar for upcoming movie projects.  I like the story for Avatar but I can see several hidden (or not so hidden) themes in the story which I found interesting.

I haven't seen it. But in the trailer and plot summary, I spotted quickly how it matches the United States' tainted and shameful history with the American Indians.

If you think these are examples of the worst movies ever, we need to have a talk.

Cannibal the Musical
Battlefield Earth
Queer Duck

I just want to jump in and say. The first time I saw Napoleon, I too was prone to say, what the whoop.
As I did with the first Austin Powers "Baby"
But two, three and now many times later I love both.
You think I got these opinions. By dressing like Peter Pan right here ? Forget about it !
They and many more are definitely a acquired taste. But hey I like Naked Gun and many Monty Python movies. Thats how I roll.

Dune is a classic.

The new miniseries is probably better overall.

But, Napoleon Dynamite, you didn't like it?  Probably because you weren't the target audience.

Ferngully meets Dances With Wolves.

There, you know the whole story, now go see it for the 3D and CGI, both of which really are breathtaking.

We went New Year's day.  It definitely lived up to the hype and I came away impressed even though it's not a typical movie genre I enjoy.  It took 45 minutes to an  hour to get my stomach to completely settle down and a little eye/brain adjustment upon leaving the theater for a few minutes.

Saw it in 2-D this weekend, gonna go back and see it in 3-D. Plotline is kinda basic, but there were some unpredictable stops along the way and the look and overall adventure makes it worth it.

P.S. Went to AMC Theaters for the first time in a long time. Place was complete trash, likely never going back. Standing water in the bathroom, half the fixtures broken, theater was not cleaned and disgusting.

Let corporate know about it.  I'd rather all our theaters were in better shape too.

I went to AMC recently to see the Boondock Saints 2 because it was the only theater in NE Oklahoma showing it.  It was so horrible and the theater smelled bad.  I also left a comment on their site.

In Avatar news, people are now having depression from watching Avatar:  http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Movies/01/11/avatar.movie.blues/index.html

I got a response from AMC, but they did little to try to win me back:
Quote
Hello Mr. Grizzle,

We recently received  a notice from our corporate office.  It appears that you had a very negative experience the last time you visited our location.

Please allow me the opportunity to apologize for the poor quality of your visit.  On behalf of the Southroads management team, we are truly sorry that your experience was not all that it could have been.

I realize that excuses do not excuse our poor performance, but we had been faced with several challenges that day.  Admittedly, we dropped the ball in more ways than one.  I recall that time period, as I was on duty until 5pm that day.  We were under extremely high volume conditions and were somewhat unprepared.  As for the restroom facilities, we are very sorry about their poor condition.  It being a holiday weekend, the problems definitely went unrepaired for longer than we would have liked.  We have since repaired the problems.  I was unaware until reading your report that an auditorium had not been cleaned.  There is, frankly, no excuse for this.  It appears that in the rush, our ushers failed to clean your auditorium properly.  We will make every effort in the future to ensure that this doesn’t occur again.

We would be happy to discuss this matter further if you would like.  Please feel free to give us a call at XXX-XXXX or stop by to visit any time.

Thank you so much for this very valuable feedback!

The desire for customer satisfaction is dead.

I complained about multiple horrific experiences at the 71st & Riverside Burger King and the district manager gave me a couple of coupons, good only at that location.

The worst experience I've ever had at any restaurant was at the 81st and 169 Burger King..  I tried my best to find a way to get the message to corporate or regional or something...  Everything directed me to talk to the local manager...   The incompetent local manager was clearly the issue.   I simply decided I'd never return.
