Be sure to read the proposed strategies & next steps (beginning on page 42). This is where it starts to get fun, b/c these are concrete steps that must be taken if we want to achieve real change in Tulsa. And these changes are going to be a threat to those who like things just the way they are. (Motto: "Preserving the status quo for a mediocre Tulsa for the past 50 years!") Any nut can go out and vote for Medlock. All you need is an AM radio, a felt-tip pen, and the ability to draw a line. It's a lot harder to commit the time and dedication needed to update the comprehensive plan and develop a long-range vision for an entire community. How long did it take you to vote for Medlock (or whomever)? 30 seconds? If voting in the mayoral primary had taken several hours, how many people would have voted? Thousands of Tulsans have dedicated countless hours to participate in PLANiTULSA. They participated in 4-hour workshops, they came to evening meetings to learn more about the process, they studied the scenarios and gave thought to which elements would be the best. They took the time to be ENGAGED in a long process. Now, they are reading the vision document and offering their thoughts and feedback. Basically, folks have been working on this for a year. Which takes a lot more dedication than checking a box on a ballot, one morning before work. However, you'll be happy to know that more people "voted" on this PLANiTULSA thingy than for any of the city councillors... People had to drive to the polling location to vote for Medlock but only had to turn on a computer to vote on the A B C or D for PlaniTulsa....
