Title: H.Res.554-require that legislation be available 72 hours on the net before vote Post by: jamesrage on July 25, 2009, 03:07:39 pm This is a good idea. Hopefully someone adds an amendment to increase the amount of time based on length of bill. When I say this a few days ago it only had 10 cosponsors,as of now it has 68 cosponsers.
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-hr554/show This resolution would require that the full text of House legislation and accompanying committee reports be continuously posted on the Internet. Moreover it seeks to establish a policy prohibiting the House from voting on legislation until 72 hours after its text is made available to Congress members and the general public. The bill’s stated purpose is to enhance public participation and improve the quality of proposed legislation by ensuring the opportunity for its review by actors ranging from State officials to members of the public. Hopefully John Sullivan jumps on this too. http://sullivan.house.gov/zipauth.html He already agreed to read the healthcare bill at least 72 hours before voting on it,so this shouldn't be a problem for him. http://www.desertconservative.com/2009/07/20/write-and-demand-that-the-healthcare-bill-be-read-prior-to-vote/ Title: Re: H.Res.554-require that legislation be available 72 hours on the net before vote Post by: waterboy on July 25, 2009, 03:13:05 pm It does sound like a good idea. I wonder just how many folks will be able to understand the text of the legislation or its impact. Legal terms aside, the phrasing is often overly complex. Perhaps some summarizing or analyses in common language could be added. In English of course. ;)
Title: Re: H.Res.554-require that legislation be available 72 hours on the net before Post by: FOTD on July 25, 2009, 03:32:05 pm MALARKEY! Sounds like shenanigans to this devil.
"If this Bill is not read at least 72 hours before being voted on by ALL Senators and Representatives I think any that do vote should be held up to ridicule and recalled!" Any parties to contracts should be following the changes and callibrations within their parties as the process works out a document. (they could discuss it at a Tuesday night C Street dinner). This is a tool in the "let's make Obama fail" bag. They've had 20 years to build on in congress to come up with a bill. Give me a break. Call your representative and plead with him to have an open mind and vote for single payer and to make health care for all a right. It's the only solution. Please don't give me that "socialized besides no money" argument either. We are printing enough money to bail out Wall Street which is three times the necessary funds for health care. Besides, we continue in a deflationary situation which demands we print even more money. And is the military socialization? How about our education system? Police and fire? Title: Re: H.Res.554-require that legislation be available 72 hours on the net before vote Post by: waterboy on July 25, 2009, 03:40:45 pm If it was designed to slow legislation down, especially healthcare related, then yes that sounds like shenanigans. But it is in concept a good idea for the populace to see what legislation is proposed and how it would impact them. Why should only the big company lobbyists have that edge? My concern is that, based on what I read on forums, newspaper responses and common conversation, the populace won't understand what is being presented to them and thus be a waste of time and effort.

We have a model in medicare and in the way our vets get their needs met. The country can't afford nit picking this thing apart. It requires careful execution with strong leadership. Time to move forward with change. Seems like the chickens want status quo. Say 1 hour for every billion. That would mean 1 month to review stimulus, 2 months for healthcare, etc.

Even if the actual effect is minimal, knowing that their "work" will be presented before they vote on it might force some changes. All these interpretations are a smoke screen for the “powers to be” to exercise their powers.

Care to provide your analysis of how or why the provisions of this bill might be challenged as constitutional? Also, be so kind as to provide an alternative to a constitutional court. Thank you in advance for your insight. Also, be so kind as to provide an alternative to a constitutional court. Thank you in advance for your insight. Very; Simple the books of Moses contain the 10 commandants. The constitution contains 7 commandments. Both has required millions of pages of interpretation since Washington appointed the first chief justice who began the interpretation which was to become the law of the land. Which is estimated that it requires ˝ of the worlds license attorneys to challenge even the simplest parts. As for the court composition of life time appointments of attorneys it is extending the long practices of the fox guarding the hen house. China, in its new birth of reincarnating their once world power, requires the courts to include among their judges person without law training. This should be incorporated with the limiting of terms as being a direct representation of the citizenry of all classes as we become a nation of class divisions . Good luck arguing that in a court of law. It might be good for laughs, if nothing else. Burn baby burn. Who cares who supports it just as long as there is enough people to make it pass. If this passes the next step would be to add more days or maybe making a law requiring those in office to read the bills before voting for them. |
