The Brookside Neighborhood Association, PreserveMidtown, COHN and the South Peoria Neighborhood Connection Foundation are hosting a District 4 and District 9 city council candidate forum this Monday evening, February 25th, at 6:30 p.m. at All Souls Unitarian Church.
The forum will focus on neighborhood issues and will be moderated by Ken Greenwood. Doors open at 6:30 and the program will start at 7:00 p.m. Residents will have an opportunity to meet with the candidates before and after the forum.
Please plan to attend, meet the candidates and hear what their positions are on neighborhood issues.
So I went to this waste of time panderfest. It was a joke. A pathetic excuse for a forum. The sponsors should be ashamed of themselves for putting on such a sham. It was just stump speeches and one question from the moderator about what is the role of a neighborhood association. No questions from the audience to be answered by the panel in front of the public forum, just on an individual one-on-one basis. When I went to ask about this and complain about this fact to the sponsors, I was told I needed to talk to the Barnes campaign manager because that was the only format that they would agree to. So I did, I was told by her campaign manager that they didn't want questions from the audience because it might allow the other candidates to use them as vehicle to attack Maria. How chickensh*#t and gutless is that? This is the kind of thing I would expect out of the Home Builders or the Chamber, not neighborhood advocates. I will still vote for Maria, but that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I'll just have to chalk it up to bad advice from an inept campaign manager, because to me, this just serves to reinforce the criticisms being lodged at Maria.
So each of the candidates spoke about why they were running and answered a question relating to neighborhoods...then each candidate hung around and answered individual questions.
It still sounds informative.
Why do you think because they wanted to limit crazy, embarassing, and loaded questions from you that it was a waste of time for everybody else?

If that was really the case, all they had to do was not call on me. Simple. Why disenfranchise everyone else who showed up wanting to ask questions and have them answered publicly, not privately, just to shut me up?

I believe the crux of Doble A's complaint was the candidates were essentially given the same one line question....
Where is the
revelation of leadership found in that scenario.....?
I personally would have wanted many questions answered by Mister P.T. Bynum....

I understand that eight of the nine candidates showed up and that for them each to introduce themselves, discuss neighborhood issues, and answer one question took about 45 minutes. I also understand that each candidate was very accessible afterwards, and stuck around to answer questions. DoubleA, I'm not sure what type of neighborhood-related questions you had that didn't get answered, but I'm a bit surprised that you didn't just ask the question after the formal discussion and then broadcast the answer on TulsaNow. In any event, I'm sure you will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions at another event more geared towards that sort of format. With yesterday's event, it seems to me that having a longer, more formal question and answer session with all of those candidates would have required a huge amount of time for very little additional value.

Considering it did not even last an hour, that doesn't make any sense. If that was such a huge concern, why have it for two council districts in the first place?
2 years ago Dist. 4 had what about 8 just for it. They held a forum one time I went to and each candidate answered many questions that had been written on cards from those attending.
It's been done and Maria participated in it , even if she was just getting over a cold. Why too scared to do it this time[B)]

I hope it's just that she is getting bad advice from the folks running her campaign.
