NOSAK Raw?
Sweet Jesus!! Who in the hell green lit this pile of garbage? My wife wanted to see what it is all about. 4 minutes into it and we are both already laughing our butts off.
He is one over-dramatic dude. I think he wants to be the Crocodile Dundee of the urban forest.
This is just a long commercial for his company, and him. He bought the airtime, produced the show and sold the commercials. He has been making videos for a while...Here is one of his on You Tube...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjBB5nRbERg
He is just a small businessman who hires a television crew to film his jobs, then makes them into a show. It must take quite an ego to be him.
He seems like a decent guy to hire for tree work, however. He makes a real committment to reuse as much of the tree as possible instead of just throwing it away. In this Urban Tulsa story, he tells of many of these in his past efforts to save the wood...

Haven't seen it but based on the site it looks like an infomercial.

Tulsa tree trimmer creates reality TV show on perilous profession
December 28, 2007
TULSA – For several years Paul Nosak has watched spectators gather around his Nosak Tree Service crews as they trimmed branches from power lines or removed dangling limbs.
With a family history of arboreal care going back to the 1950s, Nosak understands the danger, aesthetic concerns and simple drama that attracts watchful eyes. For more than two years Nosak's wondered how he could capture that curiosity and interest on film.
At 7 p.m. Friday, Tulsa viewers of CBS affiliate KOTV 6 will see the fruit of his labor. In what could be Oklahoma's first reality television program, Nosak Raw shows his seven-man Tulsa crew removing a 50-foot-tall oak from beside a new $5 million mansion. Future episodes will confront them with the devastation from this month's ice storm.
"This is real reality," said producer, director and cinematographer Austin Hughes. Nosak hired the owner of Hughes Pictures of Tulsa to help create and prepare the show for possible network sale. "This is not a Hollywood presentation."
Nosak funded, executive produced and stars in the show, which will debut in a one-hour format before continuing weekly with half-hour shows at 12:30 a.m. Saturdays and midnight Sundays. Nosak even paid for the air time, all in hopes of gathering a following to illustrate the show's potential to the broadcast or cable outlets.
"This is not an informercial," he said, estimating his total costs so far at $160,000. "We didn't need more tree business. We did this for entertainment."
This marks his second effort to pull the show off. In July Nosak started three months of filming with a different contractor. When he realized that material resembled more home video than professional high-definition television, and that the contractor had ignored his project goals, Nosak sought out Hughes, a former ABC cameraman. Their test material, which Hughes shot with a hand-held HD camera, became the debut episode.
Hughes and Nosak are editing episodes three and four, with Nosak approving the final cut after a full day's work in the field. The duo intends to sift through the earlier footage shot for anything that can be chopped together even as they continue filming new material.
"We want to be able to produce one a week for the audience," said Nosak.
"We don't know how we're going to do that," added Hughes, who is now using a second cameraman to keep pace. "We're trying to put together a show every seven to 10 days."
Nosak estimated each show cost about $35,000 to $40,000 to complete, noting filming process not only requires his crews to work slower but reduces his productive time.
"I feel comfortable saying we're going to be able to produce 25 episodes this year," he said, after which the show's future will depend on whether it gets picked up by a network.
Nosak's personal commitment is to complete 13 episodes, shopping the show around at trade shows and network offices after episode five. The 13 will get him to the first point where KOTV can pull out of the deal. Nosak has a one-year contract with KOTV, reviewable quarter by quarter.
"If I don't sign any contracts after the first year, I'm going to close it out," he said. "We're stepping out in faith."
He has one advantage. In providing the show and paying for the air time, Nosak keeps all the revenue from advertisements he places within the piece. Each half-hour offers 12 placement spots. Nosak attracted six advertisers for the debut.
Filming his crew at work also has provided Nosak the chance to trumpet other Tulsa businesses, like TK's Restaurant, Brown Bag Catering and Smith Farm and Garden. To provide musical accompaniment to the episodes he has hired Tulsa musicians William Joseph Nosak, who just had an album produced, and Troy Peterson of Xian Records.
Choosing to film his business promises some peril. Data from the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics found the 2003 fatality rate for landscaping workers was more than three times that in all industries. But so far Nosak has been fortunate. Even with all the dangers and damage caused by the ice storm, Nosak said none of his workers have been hurt while filming – although Hughes once got hit by a piece of wood transported by a Bobcat. He was able to continue working.
Despite the unscripted delivery and action, Hughes suggested some in the crew demonstrated on-air talent, charisma and charm – perhaps none more than Nosak.
"I've always had a desire to be involved some way in the entertainment industry," the Christian admitted. "But I always thought I would have to go to Hollywood to do this, and I didn't want that."
Hughes also was surprised how hands-on Nosak got in the editing and production process.
"He definitely is the executive producer," said Hughes, discussing some creative differences they've had over pacing and edits. "We've almost had a few blows a couple of times, but what Paul wants is for me to be more real, and I can understand that."
Nosak has placed 19 billboards around the Tulsa area advertising the show, launched the Web site www.nosakraw.com complete with trailers and products for sale, and put footage on You Tube to attract interest. But even if the show takes off and proves a major success, Nosak expects to continue doing what he's doing now – with one exception.
"I would always like to do the trees for free," he said. "I think we could come in here and do this tree and then say, 'By the way, the work's on us.' "
Nosak expressed some concern the first episode might drag a bit in comparison to the action seen in the ice storm footage. Hughes disagreed, believing the debut episode revealed needed character development and human interest.
"We still don't know if we have a product the public will like," said Nosak. "That's our drama."
Celebrating Nosak Raw
TULSA – To mark the debut of Nosak Raw, Paul Nosak will host a premiere party from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Jewel, 3340 S. Peoria Ave. Open to the public, the party will feature free appetizers, T-shirts, and hats, with the debut episode shown on big-screen televisions. For more information or to R.S.V.P. for the premiere party, contact Marnie Ducato at (918) 599-0029 or marnie@rexpr.com.
I just assumed it was an infomercial thinly veiled as a reality show.
This guy and his crew of goons scare the crap out of me. They all look like they just got out of the pen. More than your trees will be leaving your property. This guy sure is proud of his OKLEY's, " they were expensive. " I am sure your paying by the hour and there would only be so much of the sawdust fights I could handle. Then it was really nice to see them drinking it up with the mystery chick in the backgroud, blurred out for some odd reason. I really thought this was a joke when I saw this on local television, but I am also really glad I caught it because I was in need of a good laugh. This Dog The Bounty Hunter wanna be just hit the top of my total looser list. Now that's funny....
I liked it. [8D]
My wife turned the TV to a different station so I went to the bedroom and watched.

You must live in a sheltered world. They looked like a bunch of hard working blue collar guys and gals to me that are good at what they do.
Two things I can't stand: Reality TV and infomercials. Didn't even bother to click the links.
I caught part of it, thought it was just letterboxed on 6 and 706 not HD, hmm maybe I should have payed more attention.
I think he should stick to roofing.....
So, tree-trimmers have so much extra money that they can afford to blow $160k on a whim. And this was before the ice storm. Do they compete on price at all, or is there some oil-industry style collusion going on here?

Interesting question. I know a lot of people, my parent's included, who had to hire a crew to remove damaged trees from the ice storm. In talking to them they all, every single one of them, paid $1500-$1700 for the job.
Amazing video.
I always think that people who post videos showing their company violating so many OSHA
violations has probably got a death wish.
Riding the ball. Sheesh.
As a side note, the guy that posted the
video also has a video of a PT Cruiser, alas
no fat blond lady in it....
I bet they were making it look exciting for the camera. No professional would ever REALLY do such junk and stay in business. The workers comp and fines would shut them down.
If you look closely, when he is "riding the ball" a couple of scenes later he is maybe 5 feet up the tree. I'm guess they road it to their. It's doubtful a crane company would allow such behavior (trust me) AND have it filmed. Not to mention, surely a tree company that seemingly large has a man basket.
Don't really know, just taking a guess. They looked liked they knew what they were doing.

Be sure to get more than one bid... We had them give us a bid on removing a tree and trimming a couple of others last spring. They were 2X as high as the company we ended up hiring. The one we used is a well-known entity in Tulsa (insured, bonded, etc) that did a wonderful job, and not some fly-by-night outfit.
Nick
In my industry, we see a lot of companies that take pictures of their crews doing stupid things....
I don't believe there is even a height limit
on riding the ball, due to the weight of the
ball, even if that is not valid, I know he exceeded the 8 foot rule. I got the impression from the video that they own their own crane truck. As you say, very few crane companies
woud tolerate such, I use a bunch of them.
Eye protection is another one. As the guy is cutting the tree and finds the nail, he is wearing no eye protection. Ear protection
is there, but no eye protection.
Debatable is the body protection. Most of the loggers I have seen wear arm covers and leggings.
The guy is a case nonetheless.

No, you should NEVER ride the ball/block. And good catch on the eye protection. I was just saying that it appears that they went out of their way to look maverick. Why, I'm not really sure.
and... sent you a PM.
why be such a loser and talk so badly about someone? - the fact is, the first commentator here is jealous of a lifestyle and position they'll never see in their lifetime so what better way to make up for it than to write so cynnically! sorry(not really), but get a life loser !
I understand why you defend him.
You are one of the guys he hired to produce music for his TV show.

Oooook.
I'm willing to bet I pay more in taxes than you make in a year.
Okay, the newbie who is so offended got me to at least click the link to youtube. This is what happens when a reality show junkie has enough money to produce his own reality show. Personally, I'd use the $160K to put a kid through Harvard, but it's his money.
The schtick is pretty much the same as every other reality show on A & E, and he's obviously a fan of R. Lee Ermey ("Don't touch that dial or I'll dump a truck load of logs in your yard!").
No harm, no foul, just not real compelling stuff. I bet his insurance guy crapped down both legs when he saw the Bobcat doing a wheelie passing the Benz.
I can't ever figure out some of the "related videos" on Youtube, what does: "Two girl kissing! LESBIAN KISS ASIA !!! BEST KISS EVER !!!!!" have to do with tree service? That's kinda the opposite isn't it?

Sorry, I lost the thread. Got the PM, and replied.
Whatever works for the tree guy, but I know he won't be trimming trees for us!

You talking to me?
Am I really jealous of his lifestyle?
Come on. My guys climb 1100 feet and laugh
at it. Why would I be jealous of you?
I just think it is laughable that someone would risk everything for a silly video. We have properties from Maine to Colorado, and I am not willing to risk them on violating OSHA regs, much less showing to the world that I violate them. That is not smart, and not fair to the people who depend on us for their living.
Hey, but Cowboy, you have a great day.
good luck ya'll

You too. I hope the show works out and you guys make millions...
Someone talked to Mr. Novak this afternoon, then told me that he said the show is going national (hearsay your honor, find an exception!). I have no reason to doubt that Mr. Novak said that to my source, but I don't know Mr. Novak and it seems a little odd to me. But for whatever it's worth, there's the hot rumor.
There was a group of 18-20 years olds that walked the I beams in the construction phase in building the bomber plant in the Wwll.
Had OSHA existed at that time we would still be debating if the miles of I beams had to have a life line attached as it was 42 feet above the floor. The war would have come and gone without the plant ever being built.
This TV program is an example of showing people (I don't know if the word is allowed) do manual labor called physical WORK.
Shadows, I see people do actual work daily. Dangerous work. But it is done safely and without playing around.
Riding the block is not work. Waving running chainsaws around for the camera is not work. Failure to wear eye protection is not work.
I appreciate risks that are taken to get the job done, but I also know what laziness, showing off, and horseplay is. Lets not confuse those two categories. I imagine the guy is more safety conscious than he lets on (or he wouldn't be in business), but his on camera showing off seems a bit over the top.
/recycled discussion, sorry.
Wow, some people are so judgemental! Can you not watch the show and be entertained by what they are doing with out being immediately critical? I think the show is pretty fascinating! GEROME KENNEDY IS SEXY! Haha! Anyways, the show starts tapeing for season 2 next week and yes it is going national, and I do know Mr Nosak personally so I do know what Im talkin about.

Wow, want a cookie[8)] Noask is suffering from Napoleon syndrome and that is great that he has enough money to do another craptastic show, but I'd rather watch time-lapsed footage of my **** disintegrating in the toilet. He will probably rent out a bar on Brookside again so people can come and bask in his glory.
two words: dude Rocket.
No class dirty equipment, OSHA violating dude ROCKET.
Disgust; please if you succed Nosak please tell them you are fom anywhere but OKLAHOMA.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but anybody thinking of hiring these guys, if the show didn't change your mind know this:
The one on the show with the long goatee and I think his brother (who I've never seen on the show) show up at a certain bar a lot wearing their Nosak shirts. They will, every time they are around, without fail try to start a fight with someone or someones there. They have earned the nickname "the fight brothers".
The non-goatee one was telling me one time about his daughter being born the day before (and he's at the bar??) 5 minutes later he's being true to form and trying to start a fight.
Last time I saw them they were playing pool and a missed shot resulted in one of them breaking the cue against the table. Not the kind of people I want around my house.
Haha, The bio on the website for the goatee one lists his favorite magazine as "High Times". How professional.
Let me tell you about Paul Nosak star of Nosak Raw.
Paul has done just about every important tile roof in Tulsa, including mine.
After 9/11 and the subsequent bust, Paul lost over $1M in business and shelled out of roofing (for the most part) into his current tree business. Bet he made out pretty well this past winter.
Last year before the launch of Nosak Raw, Paul told me that if he didn't give his reality show a shot, he would always regret it.
I just talked with him recently on some unrelated business and he has a production company out of LA handling his show now.
When I first met Paul he was a bit dazed due to a recent motorcycle accident, and his pants were drooping as he crawled around my roof. What can I say except that this amounted to a picture of total charm and I hired him.
I've watched his show and I have to say that it needs a bit more jiggle and then it would be at least as popular as "This Old House" was back when that foxy blonde man was there.
Paul has personality +. He is a real go getter and unlike most Tulsans doesn't need his parents' permission to breathe.
Here's a local boy putting serious money into a local show that's trying to go national. Instead of talking about the Tulsa that could be, he's living it. That's what this crap is all about.
Go Nosak. You're a prince among lesser beings.
Good post, Hometown.
I'd probably much rather swig a beer with Nosak than some yuppie who lives in a Bixby McMansion.

Good for you, however those of use who actually live in the real world, aren't quite so judgemental. If you dont like the show, dont watch, but that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with people who do like it and watch it. And just FYI it got really good rateings! So apparently there are quite a few people who do like it.
Good post Hometown, I agree, Paul is a good guy, and hes worked hard for what he has.
Well come to think of it he does have a big mouth and needs a good spanking -- but I still admire his spunk.
Would someone please post some pictures of Mr. Nosak and his brawny crew. Calling all fans of Nosak Raw. Does anyone have pictures and a listing of when his show is on and what channel? I want everyone to see what all the fuss is about.

I thought it would replace "I-dull" by now...
It did have an ounce of humor though....
I'd rather watch a 3 day Nosak Raw marathon than 1 episode of Seinfeld fersure...

Sad. Running red lights, drinking while driving, leaving the scene. Pretty much a tri-fecta. And pretty much common place after midnight anywhere in town. I feel awful for the families who have to endure the results of his selfish behavior.
BTW, Tulsa World, a full size Chevy Blazer of that year is no where near classified as a sport SUV. That is an enclosed short bed 4wd truck. Sits high and carries a lot of destructive damage for smaller cars.

Ironic that the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office grant money TPD is chasing right now is for underage drinkers.
What a tragedy all around. Josh Paul sure should have grown up more than that WAY before this. He is a dipstick. Not to mention an alledged murderer.
The company has some good equipment. I would love to get some of those logs. May have to call him. As far as their work, well all these white collar guys ought to get out and watch some blue collar work sometime.
Wright and Asplundh are larger comparables and I have watched them from time to time. They all do pretty good work. Yeah, these guys are hot-dogs and it seems to take extra time, but that is definitely covered by the fact they are doing a TV show. Also looks like they are trying to train some of these guys at the same time.
One thing I strongly recommend is a pair of chaps - the saw blade stopping kind. Best $60 or so you can ever spend if running a chainsaw.
Lots of video on nosak.raw.
That work is fun, too.
