Title: Snus
Post by: iraqniphobia on November 05, 2007, 02:17:27 PM
Anyone know any smoke shops in town selling Snus?

I went to the one at at 81st and riverside, and they had no idea what I was talking about.

You won't find it at IKEA.

As I understand, they only came to the US recently and are banned in all member countries of the european union. I'm not betting you will find it many places.

Conversation in smokeshop.

Customer: Do you have any Snus?

Clerk: What's Snus?

Customer:  Nothing much.  What Snu with you?  (Badabum!)

Ah, sorry. But I was looking really for the Camel/Marlboro US versions that lots of places are carrying now.

It probably hasn't really hit the Tulsa market yet.

I'm a Red Seal user myself.  What exactly is better about Snus than Conwood or UST products?  I never really thought of EU countries being big consumers of smokeless tobacco products.

You couldn't find Skoal or Copenhagen or any other related products very easily in Europe back in the '80's.  Has it become more popular with anti-smoking initiatives there?

OK ... what is Snus? I take that it's not something that my 96-year-old neighbor would have stuffed into his pipe.

from wikipedia

quote:

Snus (pronounced /#712;sn#649;#720;s/) is a moist powder tobacco product that is consumed by placing it under the upper lip for extended periods of time. It is used in a manner similar to American dipping tobacco, but typically does not result in the need for spitting. Snus is also unique in that it is steam-cured rather than fire-cured, is not fermented and contains no added sugar.

Also, being steam cured, it taste better, and it contains somewhat less carcinogens(2.8 parts per mil for Ettan brand compared to as high as 127.9 parts per mil in American brands)
than regular tobacco. I know that doesn't make it safe or anything, just sayin'.

I just hear lots of good things about it, and want to see what the hype is about.
