Congressman Sullivan's office is requesting that Tulsa City constituents call the following City Councilors to urge them to retain the resolution requirement that illegal alien status is checked by City Police for misdemeanors as well as felonies. Mayor Taylor wants to check for felonies only. A drunk driving fatality is a misdemeanor and would not be subject to inquiry if the Mayor gets her way. The calls must be made before the Thursday 6:00pm Council meeting 5-24-07.
Please get the word to as many people as you can. This is an important time to ACT.
Councilors to contact:
Rick Westcott
Bill Martinson
Dennis Troyer
John Eagleton
Bill Christiansen
Cason Carter
Call 596-1990 and ask for Councilors office

This is why we need english only rules.Last time I checked this was the United states of America, not the United Mexican States.Cracking down on illegals is worth the time of the police. If our federal government did it's damn job we would not have to have the state and local governments doing the jobs the feds won't do.
I laugh that our congressman is trying to shirk a federal problem off on our local officials.
Who doesn't believe that illegal immigration issues are mostly caused and can be best solved by the federal government?
I think our councilors should tell our congressman to do his job before he tells them how to do theirs.
I find it ironic that jamesrage wants English-only rules, yet he is not well-versed in English in terms of spelling, grammar, capitalization and punctuation.

The overall picture? Yes, best solved by the feds. Enforcement and tracking them down once they are inside the borders, easier to do at the local and state level.
There are local initiatives, taken with Federal which would put a dent in the problem.
Personally, I see the latest round of Federal legislation winding up just like the '86 reform act. Everyone is too afraid of Mexico's feelings on the issue.

Do people not understand it won't change a thing!
Local police arrest a guy on a drunk driving charge. They check and find he is in the country illegally (where that database is, I have no idea). The police call the feds, who for years have told the police they don't want these petty criminals. The feds refuse to accept them, just like in the past, and the immigration issue is over.
Why does everyone think that all of a sudden, because the police in Tulsa are checking people's immigration status, the feds are going to jump up and say "give us all your illegals!" They're not. The dude that walked before is going to continue to walk in the future. Without the federal cooperation, immigration is impossible at the local level. There is no illegal immigration law on the books in Tulsa. There is no bus that local police drive to the Mexican boarder. And do we all think all illegals are from Mexico? Really?
Ok, I am still a bit confused on all of this. I would have thought that if anyone was stopped or arrested by police that the police would check for an ID. Especially if it was any of the examples given, driving drunk, hit and run, etc. One has to be driving a car to do those so shouldnt one also have a drivers license?
I accidently left for work the other day without my wallet and license and was afraid of what would happen if I got caught driving without it. Wouldn't I get in trouble for that? So wouldn't someone who didn't have a license at all be in even more trouble? I am guessing that illegal aliens aren't able to get licences?
Even if you arent driving and you get arrested by the police don't you have to have some sort of ID? If you don't wouldnt they have to do some sort of search to find out if you were who you said you were?
Basically how could they NOT know your an illegal alien? How is that possible?
How could the police even issue a ticket without getting some form of ID? They would have to in order for the ticket or fine or arrest to make any sense? They have to know who you are, don't they?
Someone please explain this to me.

Driving without a license is a city misd. The officer can either issue a ticket or take the person to jail. If you have a license but don't have it with you at the time of being stopped. You can give the officer your information (name, DOB, Social security number, D.L. number)and it can be verified. The officer may also put your fingerprint on the hard copy of the ticket just to verify later in court.
There is another charge for driving a vehicle and not having your license.
If you are arrested and do not have identification, an officer will take your information and check to see if you are already in the Tulsa Police data base. If someone has been arrested before, then officers will just check their photo. Officers can also check a person's criminal history which will have their tattoos and fingerprints recorded so officers can compare that way.
Illegal immigrants are very difficult because they may not have any record of their information anywhere. It is common for an illegal immigrant to have several names and to move to a different city if they are arrested. Once at the new city, they just make up another name and personal information. Sometimes, we never know their real names.
The only break we have is if they have been sent to jail somewhere and their fingerprints are on file.

Since I have never been arrested before. If the police stop me all I have to do is not show any ID, and lie about who I am, then they won't be able to get me to pay a fine or show up for any court date, etc. because they never knew who it was they stopped?
I can't imagine that the police could let someone go if that person had no proof of who they were and the police had no idea who that person was.
How would they record the crime? Whats your name sir?... Umm Joe Blow... Where do you live?... Under the 21st bridge... Any family members, contact information?.... Nope. Ok, here is your ticket be sure to pay it, or, Your court date is on such and such a day, be sure to be there.... Riiiiiiiiight, like thats gonna happen. The police couldn't enforce anything if they didn't know who the person was. And they shouldn't let them go until they find out. Especially if they were stopped because of a crime.
It passed. I guess Maria, Jack and Roscoe decided not to run for re-election. I hope the Mayor is stupid enough to veto this so her political career will end as a one term Mayor.

We call it the "name game". We play it all the time. It goes like this...
"I don't have any ID".....
Okay, what is your name? (There are many indicators that officers look for to see if a person is lying. I'm not going to tell you what they are but this is where it starts.)
"John Brown".......
Okay, what is your Date of Birth"03/15/1968".......
Okay, what is your Social Security number?447940987........
Okay, have you ever been a victim of a crime in Tulsa? If they answer yes, then they are in the Tulsa Police database. If their info is not, they are lying. If you think they may be lying, you can always re-ask their Date of Birth and Social Security number. (Unless they have memorized someone else's info, they usually won't remember what they have told you and then tell you something different.)
Okay, have you ever been arrested in Tulsa? If they answer yes then they should be in the Tulsa Police data base. If their info is not, they are lying.
If they answer no then you ask,
Have ever had an Driver's license in Oklahoma? If they say yes, then there should be a record. If they answer no, then you ask,
Have ever had a D.L. or a state issued identification card anywhere? If they have then there should be a record. If their isn't they are lying.
You then keep going and going until you put them in a box with their answers until they finally tell you who they are or get enough info to determine who they are.
If someone is here legally or is a citizen here, it is very difficult for them to keep us in the dark about who they are. If they are illegally here than it is alot easier. What are we going to check on them? We aren't going to take them down to jail to fingerprint them and run an FBI criminal history check over a misd. offense. We will simply issue the citation, take a fingerprint of index finger and maybe a digital photo of them.

As I have asked before, you are out-and-about and don't have any identification. You encounter the police. How do you prove your citizenship? Should you be booked into the jail as an illegal immigrant? That is ultimately what people are asking for (although, that may not be their intentions).

My concern wasn't so much about the illegal immigrant issue as it was about having people walking around without any ID and the police unable to enforce anything. The person could be someone from another state who has committed a crime, burglary, child molester, someone who hasn't paid federal taxes, a terrorist, etc. And even if they hadn't committed a known crime but were stopped for doing something illegal then how would the police be able to enforce the fine or whatever?
Thanks for the reply MH2010 Sounds like all one would have to do is memorize another persons info, preferably someone who doesn't live in the state and who looks like you. If you were a criminal that would seem the obvious thing to do before you went out and did anything anyway. As for the, able to catch someone lying thing... I am sure there is stuff on the net to tell anyone that. A first year psych student knows stuff like... Short descriptions or stories are more likely truthful than longer ones. A person who is lying about something will tend to embellish that part of a story, "creating more believable info" thinking they are making it sound more truthful. A truthful person has nothing to worry or think about so their responses are consistently shorter and similar in "detail". (course that only works in certain circumstances and is only one indicator). Plus a good poker player knows the visual cues lol.
And yes, IMO if someone doesn't have any way to prove who they are and they have committed any crime then you should lock them up until they prove who they are. You can't just have unidentified people wandering around committing crimes. At the very least they should be finger printed and that put in a database in case there is a "next time". What is startling to me is that I had always assumed you would be in serious doo doo if you couldn't prove who you were.
They approved the measure.

Someone using someone else's information is alot more common than most people think. Identity theft used to get alot of play on the news but it was covered more in terms of financial stuff. People also will steal someone's birth certificate and then get an offical state ID card of D.L. with that person's information on it. They will then assume their identity if they get arrested. Officers won't know any different until they go to court and the person they arrested is not the person in the court room.
Here is one example off the top of my head...
http://www.oscn.net/applications/ocisweb/GetCaseInformation.asp?submitted=true&viewtype=caseGeneral&casemasterID=1723479&db=Tulsa
Believe it or not something hasn't been discussed on TulsaNow about this topic. Many native born Americans do not have birth certificates and are unable to prove their citizenship.
Anyway, you can bet that today in Tulsa there are already crimes going unreported because the word in the Latin community is avoid the police or you will be deported.

Of course it is easy for those in the Hispanic community to believe that with all the lying scum on the pro-illegal immigrations side. The resolution could have only been for requiring police officers to check the legal status of those only arrested for capital murder and the pro-illegal scum would still try to spin it as a they hate Hispanics resolution. I watched the city council meeting last night and saw the pro-illegals lying their donkey off and calling it s a hateful resolution and that Hispanics are not going to report crime.
Mr. Rage, Would you be terribly offended if I called you a parking lot attendant at a downtown parking lot?

Who here knows the federal government refuses to do it's job and refuses to fix the problem? So logically the problem can be best solved and fixed at the local and state level.Illegals do not cost the federal government anything they cost the tax payers who live in the states and cities.

I think our councilors should tell our congressman to do his job before he tells them how to do theirs.
Our congressman did not vote for that new amnesty bill that the rat traitors in DC are trying to pass,so he is doing his job.

Hey James do ya figure any of the people depicted in this poll would take offense to being called "rat traitors"....?
Or is it you just have to say that every so often to feel good?
New York Times...CBS Poll on Immigration Bill (//%22http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/25/us/25poll.html?ex=1337745600&en=ac69d308a47180bf&ei=5089&partner=rssyahoo&emc=rss%22)
About as much as opponents of illegal immigration like being called racists and xenophobes by open borders and amnesty advocates.
Gosh doubleA...
You slam democratic councilors Maria, Jack and Roscoe on this thread. You have dozens of attacks on democratic Mayor Taylor and have gone after democratic governor Henry on this forum.
Now you follow republican congressman Sullivan's instructions to lobby on this issue...
How can you be an officer in the Tulsa County Democratic Party when you keep attacking elected democrats?

This is why we need english only rules.Last time I checked this was the United states of America, not the United Mexican States.Cracking down on illegals is worth the time of the police. If our federal government did it's damn job we would not have to have the state and local governments doing the jobs the feds won't do.
Are you so misguided as to think that "english only" laws will make it illegal for someone to speak spanish on an internet forum? Or at a mall? There is a guy I work with who gets all worked up when he hears a Mexican family speaking Spanish TO EACH OTHER in public. Like he somehow should be entitled to hear what they are saying in their private conversations....These English only laws will only ban the government from producing documents in languages other than English, they won't ban other languages from being spoken within our borders!

Don't forget state officer. BTW, if you even took the time to read the platforms passed by the Tulsa County Democratic Party at the last two conventions you would know that the TCDP opposes illegal immigration. Criticizing our elected officials for ignoring the platform of our party is an important responsibility for party officers IMHO. Deal with it. I'll treat the Mayor like a Democrat when she starts acting like one. At least I've never given campaign contributions or worked for Republican candidates like da Mare.
So I guess it's totally cool for da Mare to have the police harass homeless American citizens downtown for no reason other than the effete elite feel uncomfortable by their presence, but to have the police check the immigration status of someone arrested for a crime is totally unacceptable? Give me a break.

These kind of statements seem very immflammatory for a democrat official to make against fellow democrats.
Don't you mean inflammatory? If you ever got off your ample arse to walk precincts door to door for your fellow Democrats you would be thinking the same thing. There is a clear consensus on illegal immigration in Tulsa and the people overwhelmingly oppose it. Sorry if I question the logic of falling on your sword to protect criminal illegal aliens. No matter how you spin this vote, that is how the public will view it, Spincycle.
I am not arguing your point of view on undocumented immigrants, I am just finding it hard to believe that you continually find a reason to get mad at elected democrats, then go on a very popular public forum and trash them.
I think you should either resign from your party responsibilities or try to curb your attacks on fellow democrats. Tulsa County democrats already has a 13% disadvantage to registered republicans and your words make it even harder.
You have a right to say anything you want, but as a party official I think you should have the wisdom to not public drive wedges in our party.

What do you think is more accurate, Calling someone a traitor for trying to encourage millions of people to invade our country and flush our sovereignty down the toilet or calling a multi-racial and multi-ethnic group a bunch of racist vigilantes?

Their votes will make it harder to elect Democrats and give Republicans an even greater advantage. What I've said on this board is mild compared to most of the reactions I've heard from people about this vote.
BTW, I hope da Mare is getting this lecture, because a Democratic Mayor who supports Republicans is far more divisive for our party. BTW, why did da mare take her website with all of her campaign promises down? I Guess she didn't want folks to compare what she's actually done in office with what she promised. C'mon there was no reason to take it down, even if she didn't keep her promises she could always do her usual routine of playing the victim, claiming her hands were tied and blaming someone else for the situation like she does so well. Make life bitter.
I'll be more succinct than RM.
Double A ought to quit the local Democrats because negative, name-calling cranks like him would hurt *any* organization.

The funny thing is that if I had a dime for every time I've been asked to be more involved and to continue to be outspoken by other Democrats I wouldn't have to work for a living. Figure that out.

Well James.... the actual meaning of the word may apply to a person that goes, somewhat aggressively, against a law signed into being by the President and ratified by the Supreme Court.
If the item discussed in the poll becomes the "Law of the Land" and you and the "Minutemen" conspire to violate "Said Law"...and begin carrying out acts contrary to the"Said Law"....
That just might be called a traitorous act....
I would imagine your signature line, would then become, some kind of a self fulfilling prophecy.
What the Hell....! don't sweat the small stuff..

Treason has a very simple definition.A violation of ones sovereignty is act of treason.Allowing millions of people to invade the USA and to encourage it is a act of treason.Every rat scumbag pro-illegal is a traitor to this country for trying to encourage an invasion.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/treason
1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign.
2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state.
3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery.
If we go by your definition of traitor pro-illegals are still traitors because of the fact they are going against the law of the land.
Stop it, james, you're killin' me. [}:)]
You need to get on the Colbert show. Seriously.

You are out of touch. This happens all the time. If it didnt we would need to double the size of the police force.
Local liberals learning new lessons on diversity
WASHINGTON - While President Bush and pro-amnesty members of Congress are pushing an unpopular immigration "reform" bill that would bestow American citizenship on millions of people who have no regard for America's laws, liberal Democrats across the Washington region are increasingly complaining about overcrowded houses, noise, loitering and general public nuisance — all caused by illegal aliens.
These local liberals are in no mood for "celebrate diversity" chants.
Listening recently to frustrated folks call a local radio talk show to vent about illegal aliens loitering in front of stores and cramming into $400,000 houses in their neighborhoods, I wondered if those same liberals accused pro-enforcement Americans of being "nativists," "xenophobes" and "racists" for complaining about the same problems.
Now that illegal aliens have migrated to their neighborhoods, such liberals have become pro-enforcement all of a sudden.
A Republican called in to say her Democratic friends labeled her a racist when she'd complain about illegal immigration. She'd tell them something like, "You just wait until it happens to you. Then you'll be singing a different tune."
It's happening to them, and they are singing a different tune. It turns out that liberals in half-a-million-dollar houses don't like living next door to a single-family house filled to the brim with illegal aliens who park on the front lawn, throw trash everywhere and urinate outside.
Congressional Democrats don't talk about such discontent among their constituents, but locals are keenly aware that the federal government has abdicated its role as immigration law enforcer. State and local governments are compelled to assume control.
Democrats on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in Virginia may be ousted in November if they don't deal with the growing problems. Rick Gordon, a homeland security consultant, told The Washington Post that "Enough is enough. These frauds need to go!"
He complained about an illegal alien boarding house in his neighborhood, and Supervisor Penelope Gross told him "The county's hands were tied." (Turque, Bill and Brulliard, Karin, "Overflowing Fairfax Homes Split Neighbors," Washington Post, May 13, p. A1)
Gordon emphasized that his was no "right-wing Nazi community. ... Everybody is a liberal Democrat."
Local governments are forced to try to fix what the federal government will not. Last year, in the town of Herndon, the people removed the mayor and two town council members who voted for a day labor center. The town applied for and obtained permission to begin 287(g) immigration enforcement training, which will give local law enforcement the authority to carry out federal immigration laws.
Citizens in Manassas organized a group called "Help Save Manassas" to raise awareness of the negative effects of overcrowding and loitering.
Leesburg is considering adopting stricter regulations on overcrowding.
The Virginia House of Delegates passed a measure that would block public funds to charities and other organizations that provide services to illegal aliens.
Some black residents in the Brentwood section of Northeast Washington have gone on record to complain about illegal aliens — who litter and urinate — gathering near the Home Depot in their neighborhood.
Perhaps it will take a lot more overcrowding, loitering and public urination for congressional Democrats (and the Republican president) to understand the urgent need to enforce immigration laws currently on the books instead of writing new ones to reward lawbreakers with American citizenship.
Local liberals are learning a valuable and important lesson: Not all "diversity" is worth celebrating.
^^Illegal aliens over-crowding homes in Manassas and Fairfax, who'd of thunk it? [}:)]
