Just wondering which Republijerks showed up for this blackmailing threat. They do a great diservice to future generations and the attractibility of people to Tulsa.

Fight on Drew!

Huckabee's threat, that they would damn up the Illinois, do any lawyers out there know if he can legally do that?

In my un-researched opinion . . . .

Yes, they might eventually muster the legal authority, if not the funds, have a dam built on the Illinois (as we had one built on the Arkansas river, which subsequently flows into the State of Arkansas).  Though, I would think they would need better justification than "spite."

No, they couldn't completely divert or impede the flow of water from the Illinois river into Oklahoma (for the same reason they can't unduly contaminate the waters that flow into Oklahoma).

Damming would only temporarily stop the water, right?.  Once the new lake was full (and blooming with algae), the dam would overflow and the river downstream would continue as normal.

Diverting it into an entire other basin that doesn't flow to the west into Oklahoma? Is that even possible?

Regardless, these "solutions" sounds pricey, and more to the point, like a dumb*ss threat.

Keep the screws on 'em Drew!

I love it..
quote:

"Why should both states spend millions of tax dollars toward an unnecessary lawsuit that could better go toward improving waters, improving education or health care?" he asked.

So basically, why are we spending millions trying to get the water cleaned up when we could be spending it on cleaning the water? Uhh...

quote:

Huckabee called the phosphorus standard a "completely unscientific design target."

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved the phosphorus standard in December 2003 and it will take full effect by 2012, according to a report by the U.S. Geological Survey.

Huckabee said the phosphorus standard was not attainable.

Strike 2

quote:

Huckabee characterized the lawsuit as a political act by Edmondson. He said Edmondson "seems totally bent toward making this a platform for his own political future than he does in actually solving the dispute."

Edmondson filed the suit in 2005 after 3 1/2 years of negotiations...

The Republican governor visited Tulsa during a tour of Oklahoma in support of GOP candidates. He is considering a 2008 presidential bid.

So he is getting in the middle of a lawsuit against commercial, not government entities. Something he has official interest in, threatening to use state funds to stop the suit, and after close to 4 years of working on this, Edmondson is the one using it for politial gain?

The answer to that would be a big NO.

Scribble....or grizzle.... were you one of the attendees?

Come on...name names. We need to identify who would sell out the future generations' environment for today's political gains!

My pachy-sense seems to point to a lot of people leaving early though.

My vote for Edmondson is the is the one I will cast most enthusiastically. It so nice to be able to vote for a public servant instead of a politician in a statewide election for a change.

Huckabee must have been hanging out with Inhoff too much lately.
