The Open Carry law was just signed.
I'm looking forward to securing my bathrobe with my holster belt and wandering the neighborhood barefoot.

Going to get my assless chaps and my pink leather/rhinestone studded holster tonight. Does Cavender's still carry these? :D

Watch out for broken glass.
I think it's great. Mary Fallin understands the right to carry, the bad guys will always have the guns, why not the good guys too? Tell ya one thing a group of thugs who sees someone walking in a alley way with a holdstered fire arm will think twice about robbing or attacking that person- the thugs will move on to a more easy target- someone who is not with a firearm. Thank you Mary- Oklahoma now joins some 20+ other states that allow open carry.
Mary, you are truly a God send. The wonders of open carry could never be appreciated without your wisdom and guidance helping me through these tribulations in which liberals are doing their best to take away my each and every right. I applaud your work, and I can't wait for the tax cuts you have in store for me as well. With less money going to schools, the young will have less of a chance of concocting beliefs that differ from what you and I both know is best.
Thank you for your dedication to the best interests of the state, and not being afraid to tackle the tough issues. Your highly conservative values have truly taken our state to the next level.
Sincerely,
The People of Oklahoma.

Have you seen the Sullivan commercial? Shows average joes who scowl and snarl when the word Obama is used. Then they show the Sully guy strutting around and the voice over says he's not afraid to talk back to the prez. "He got some Okie in em". Its hilarious. It takes our reputation for friendly, affable residents who would take the shirt off their back to help you and turns it on its head to portray us as drooling Tea partiers hankerin' for a fight.
The times they is a changin'.

Just wait until we hear about someone getting jumped from behind and either that person or someone else getting shot with their gun in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Do I carry? Not as far as you or anyone else knows.
That's the whole point.

This.
And while I hear a lot of people saying "it helps to know who's carrying", IMO all it does is make for a chance at an OK Corral situation (mighty ironic that)...
Gonna go to class for my CC probably in June (finally).
I do know a lot of people who are CC license holders who like the law because now they say they don't have to worry about 'their shirts coming up' or whatever. Carry it properly and you should never really to have to worry about it.
How about the guy who gets shot because either another person carrying or a cop mistakenly thought that person was reaching for their sidearm when they were going for their wallet or to scratch their donkey?
I have to ask, how many of these supposed incidents have happened in any of the states that currently have open carry?

Good question.
When we were dating, She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed and her tall, blonde Scandinavian cousins broke into my apartment in order to clean it. The Viking girls boosted SWMBO in through an open window, but our local busy-body spotted them from down the street and called the local cop.
I was at a friend's house when the phone rang. SWMBO was on the other end. "The girls and I are cleaning your apartment and Jim's here and he thinks we broke in and he wants to know if it's OK with you or he's going to arrest us and I don't know who called him but he didn't wear his uniform and all he has on is his gun!"
She paused for a breath, and I asked,"Sooo, does he have a long holster or a short holster?"
She started crying. "I'll be right there." I zoomed down the hill to my place where Jim stood on the porch chuckling. Everything was OK, so he left. Inside, the twins studiously ignored me while they scrubbed and polished. SWMBO was in my tiny living room with tears streaming down her cheeks. She buried her face in my shoulder and sobbed.
And I never did find out about the size of that holster.

No idea, and purely anecdotal. Think it won't happen in the future just because you never heard of it in the past? I'd never heard of a school yard shooting until 1989 or so and that brought about the Clinton "assault rifle bans".
Open carry is entirely the wrong message to send to those who don't value the 2nd amendment like you and I do.

So now we should outlaw anything that could
possibly end badly despite no history of it?
Just my two cents. Whoooo cares and what difference is it going to really make? Personally I haven't been paying attention to this story or thread very much, but don't understand why there is even a story here. I have stayed in states that have open carry laws and saw people openly carrying guns. It was no big deal, just became part of the background and "costume" of the person like someone wearing a hat and boots.

I am so relieved that the 25 alleyways in Tulsa will now be safe for the dozen of people that traverse them every year. Thank you Mary Fallin! Thank you for ignoring or not understanding statistics and taking care of the things that really matter.

I don't get the linkage between poor education and open carry statistics. You were talking about alleyways being safer. What does Oklahoma doing poorly in math and science have to do with that? Anyway, interesting that Minnesota is in the "well above average" category and is a licensed open carry state. And look at Indiana and Virginia.

I think you are right. But what does that have to do with wearing a cowboy holster? If the connection is that we a dumber state because of CC or open carry, again, so what? Is the new gun law going to make us even dumber or is this a straw man argument that our state is not focused on more important things...

I was originally responding to sauer's assertion that alleyways (I guess it's a film noir visual) are safer thanks to Mary Fallin and the new Open Carry Law. Tulsa isn't really teeming with alley ways and the alley ways that I frequent are normally devoid of human beings and gun weilding thugs. If as sauer eludes the point of OC is to clean up the alley ways by visibly arming all of the good guys and have them patrol those alleys vigilante style then at least the alley ways wont be empty any longer. I thank Mary Fallin for taking care of our alley way problem and I apply heavy sarcasm that this alley way problem is at the top of the list of issues to contend with.

OC is just an issue. If it doesn't decrease crime or causes massive problems, then let's see those stats like custonex suggests. Otherwise, spending time on improving education (which is not up there in my book--just sayin) as opposed to this is apples and oranges. Now back to more pressing issues.
