Title: Recycling at Office??
Post by: tulsa_fan on January 26, 2011, 04:35:02 PM
So I work downtown and our company provides canned beverages for its employees.   Currently we have no recycling options for our cans.  Now, I'll say it right now I am not going to carry bags of used pop cans downstairs to my car all the time to recycle   ;), but I'm thinking maybe there is a service that would put bins in the kitchens, etc.  Or even better in my mind would be a non-profit who would collect the cans and make money for their organization.  There are about 30 of us, I would assume each person drinks at least one can a day, and since they are free, I'm pretty confident some people drink a lot more than that.

Can anyone direct me to the correct place?

Our company has a couple of 30 gallon-ish cans with liners.  One for plastic and one for cans.  I bet someone would come and get them, if you all would keep trash separate.  If RM doesn't jump in here, maybe call the Salvation Army??
(Another shameless plug for the Army!!)

I also work downtown and have asked our building management about recycling.  They were waiting on then mayor Kathy Taylor to institute a city-wide recycling program for businesses.

There are a few options, but I am behind on work today and don't have time to write a proper response.

I will get back to this thread soon.

My work just requires long days and work every night at home.

Back when nobody cared about being green I had a good job. Now I really have to work and I have goofed off so long I have no stamina.

I used to have an office in the Skelly building and Tulsa had almost no recycling. I would bag up the cans and set them by the building where a homeless person would snatch them up to sell.

I wouldn't do that now because there are other options. First person I would talk to is the janitor service for your building. If you had them bagged up, they might appreciate the extra income. The price on the street is now about 1.5 cents per can.

That being said...I doubt many people want to come up to your office for 50 cents per day. They might if you had a couple of weeks worth. There are some companies that now specialize in collecting recyclables from businesses. A list can be found on our website...

Here are some I would start with...

Show, Inc., 918.224.7214. 425
Shikoba Recycling, 918.894.2019
National Waste, 918.838.0504
Gentle Earth Recycling, 918.630-0841
