Title: The Real State Of The Union

America Increasingly Looks Like A Developing Nation As 30% Of Americans Rapidly Approach Poverty, Or Are Already There

http://www.businessinsider.com/30-of-america-approaching-poverty-2010-1

" A shocking report from Brookings exposes just how massive America's poverty problem is. While substantial reductions in poverty were made during the 1990's, America's poor have been rocked by the dual economic downturns since 2000. The result is that poverty grew at twice the rate of U.S. population growth from 2000 - 2008, and now encompasses 39.1 million Americans. [see chart] Finally, this bad news has likely become far worse already. This research doesn't include 2009 since full data hasn't come out yet. When it does, expect a huge up-tick in poverty rates given since that's when the real brunt of the recent crisis hit 'Main St.'. "

This will get serious if the government remains locked in....

It's that type of insensitivity that will breed our next revolution....

Hardly insensitive, but I sense a visit from the hate and racism police is forthcoming.

Insensitivity ignores facts to create hyperbole.  Do you just want to keep talking about problems or look at the source and develop a solution?

Care to dispute this immutable fact that poverty has increased along with illegal immigration?

Are the law-abiding illegals living in poverty?

The research is based on people who reported an income of $10,830 for a person living by themselves, and adjusted for couples and families.  The system was developed in the 1960s and has served as a funding and campaign aid for unscrupulous Democrats and Republicans alike.

We've beat this horse so many times yet every year some study tries to revive these numbers and every year even the dumbest among us understand the flaw in the research.

For example:

My poor unemployed father lives below the poverty level.  He lives with my poor mother an, unemployed homemaker in a large South Tulsa home.  They have been unemployed and living in poverty for over 12 years.

Every day my poor father scrounges up gas money for the car and makes his way to the country club to play golf with a group of his unemployed, poverty stricken friends.  Many of these gentlemen could actually report negative incomes for the past 20 years.

On the other hand, my wife's family is wealthy.  My father in law works for an extremely poor gentleman who has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars every year for at least the past 3 years, yet he still has the ability to donate hundreds of thousands more to charity.

My goal is to some day be as poor as my father, according to the measurement in this research.

According to the Social Security Administration around 25% of eligible workers in the US were retired in 2000.  They estimated that 26% would be retired by 2010.  So when you subtract that number for the unadjusted percentages in this report you get a whole different story eh?

No, they live in the next town over toward the east.
