Obama says 'enough is enough'
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/10/happening-now-obama-says-enough-is-enough/
CNN) — Barack Obama accused the McCain campaign of "lies" and "Swift boat" politics Wednesday, after nearly a day of claims his 'lipstick on a pig' comment was a sexist attack leveled at GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin.
"Spare me the phony outrage. Spare me the phony talk about change," Obama said at the start of an education event in Virginia. "We have real problems in this country right now. The American people are looking to us for answers, not distractions, not diversions, not manipulations. They want real answers to the real problems we are facing.
"I don't care what they say about me. But I love this country too much to let them take over another election with lies and phony outrage and swift boat politics," he also said. "Enough is enough."
Obama's heated response came after the McCain campaign said the Illinois senator owes Palin an apology for invoking an old adage on the campaign trail Tuesday: "That's not change," Obama said, saying John McCain's policy views were similar to President Bush's. "That's just calling something the same thing something different. You know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig."
McCain's campaign said Obama's remarks were offensive and a slap at Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin — despite the fact that the Arizona senator himself used the phrase last year to describe a policy proposal of Hillary Clinton's.
Within minutes, the McCain campaign announced a conference call focused on the remark, which they said was a deliberate reference to Palin's line: "You know the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick."
UPDATE: Responding to Obama's comments, McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said, "Barack Obama can't campaign with schoolyard insults and then try to claim outrage at the tone of the campaign."
"His talk of new politics is as empty as his campaign trail promises, and his record of bucking his party and reaching across the aisle simply doesn't exist," Rogers also said.
"Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats."
-- Henry Louis Mencken
Obama has already lost historical perspective of "Swift Boating" in favor of using a cliche that had mold on it before the '04 election was over.
The "Swiftboaters" didn't kill Kerry's chances at being President. Kerry killed Kerry's chances. Well, Edwards may have helped too. "Swiftboating" is just a lame excuse the Dims came up with to explain away their incredibly lightweight choice of candidate.
McCain is a dumb donkey for making a big deal out of this, but Obama sounds like an even bigger dumb donkey for his mock indignation.
and I pet PETA is pissed. How many pigs will have to wear lipstick before this nonsense is stopped? As president, I will pass legislation calling for the outright ban of this cruel and humiliating treatment of our food stocks!

Ridiculous distraction and diversionary tactics on McCain's part. We are less than 2 months away from the election. I don't give a hoot about lipstick...on people, pigs or Mr. Potato head.
Issues, people.
Issues matter. This does not.
We're talking about lipstick b/c McCain and Palin don't want to or can't talk policy.

Her personal belief is anti-abortion. She has never tried to legislate her personal belief into her work, FAIK.
Women do have a choice. That choice has stood for 35 years and through 23 or so years of GOP admins and Supreme Court picks virtually unchanged. You got nothing to worry about. This is such a red herring issue amongst deeply conservative and deeply liberal voters, but obviously an emotional one.
Interesting. The NOW types would only support a woman President or VP who is liberal. Sounds like they want only believe in one dogma instead of accepting many ideas, as if Gov. Palin's stance on abortion makes her any less of a woman.

And yet again, the argument dilutes itself into one about the veep choice.
I'm not blaming you Conan; I enjoy your introspect and sometimes find myself kept in check by you.
But like many people, this is about McCain's camp, or any camp for that matter, manipulating the MSM when it's perfectly obvious that McCain made this same 'lipstick on a pig' comment to refer to Hillary's health care program in the past. You cannot have your cake and eat it too with this. This time the MSM cried 'nope' for a change.
And then, when you have Bill O and other conservative factions of the media calling BS on this, it's like a epiphany of the media. When left and right agree on something.
Like dogs and cats living together...oh, wait a minute, someone already used that analogy last week.

It's not that NOW would only support a "liberal"; they will only support a person who supports women's issues. That includes equal pay for equal work, accessible & affordable healthcare, paid family leave, etc.... You might call them liberal; they call them the issues that directly affect women and are critical to improving their lives.
Wouldn't you think lesser of a group who only supported a candidate based upon a gender test? Would you expect a member of the Eagle Forum to support a liberal female candidate?
I am glad you have such faith that Roe v. Wade won't be overturned. I am not so sure. Remember, the Supreme Court moves very, very slowly. Generally, the Supreme Court will not overturn itself immediately. However, recent decisions by the more conservative court has begun to chip away at the right.
Do you believe that McCain was just pandering when he said that he would only appoint Supreme Court Justices like Alito and Scalia? If we have a few more judges like them, I have no doubt that the right to privacy will fly out the window.

As mentioned, this was a baby tussle, both sides should have ignored the other. It will be forgotten quickly.
I took Sen Obama's comment for what it was, used the same as many of us use it in our daily vernacular.
Took me awhile to find it, pure classic:

Might be because McCain himself said so in a news article? Google it. It's pretty easy to find.
Then again though, this kinda falls along the 'lipstick on a pig' comment.
Maybe it's a little payback for it?

Why not? Back in the Seventies, it was 18 minutes of missing reel-to-reel tape? This is just updating it for the times.
If there was someone occupying the White House these days that wasn't screaming executive privilege for people that may have delivered flowers to the White House or even more trivial, this kind of stuff wouldn't be happening.
It would be tough to comprehend in this technological age that our Commander-in-Chief is living in an email age but relying on telegraph technology. That's what you're essentially saying the heads of state should be doing, with that suggestion.

Think I was referring to a _campaign_.
But, would fully expect that to change after the election, when John McCain takes the White House. Probably won't be prolific, start his own web blog or mass email his constituants, but use it he will, rest assured.

By "progressive taxation", I assume you mean that I should have to pay more than you. I already pay tons in taxes, so forgive me if I do not want to pay any more. But hey, class warfare has always worked in the past for you and the dems, so keep it up!
As for Jonah Goldberg being a "hack", what does that have to do with the article he cited. Is the article wrong, or are you shooting the messenger?
Finally, I could care less as to your opinion of Palin's interview with the LEFT WING HACK Charles Gibson. I thought she did just fine.
Other than reaffirming the fact you knee dance before Obama, is there anything intelligent you can bring to this debate?

Yeah, I bet you think FDR was the worst president ever [:O]... just keep shilling for a flat tax while your money makes more money than I do working every year..... that, my friend, is CLASS WARFARE, plain and simple...

Good news for you, Guido! Obama's tax plan reduces taxes for 95% of Americans! Unless you're one of the wealthiest 5% in the country, you will get more money back from the government if Obama is elected president.
Senator McCain, however, is promising to continue the Bush wealth redistribution project and suggests average tax breaks for the wealthiest 147,000 families in America (the top %0.1) of $269,364. (//%22http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/06/09/ST2008060900950.html%22)

Under the settled LAW OF THE LAND for the past 30 years, a woman has the legal right to choose abortion for ANY REASON: Rape, incest, the health of the woman, or merely to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.
Her personal beliefs are actually irrelevant.
It's the LAW.

All woman? Saying that a woman who was raped does not have the right to abort, is not being all woman!
Palin is being used by McSame to get the women's vote (those who are still in the dark ages), and to draw attention from the real issues. She's going to be your worst nightmare.
If it's the law of the land then why does the religious right so fervently care that the republican nominee align themselves with pro-life as opposed to pro-choice?
We've already heard McCain/Palin talk about how they would like to make abortion of any kind illegal.
While it's contentious and something I'm for in certain cases but against in others, what I am for is the choice of the person who must carry the child to term. And for that person to bear the guilt of terminating the pregnancy, or no guilt, as they see fit.

The woman is a right-wing, self-righteous idiot. She wants to take women back to the dark ages with her ideas. Women should have a CHOICE, and that's Pro-choice, not anti-choice.
Gov. Palin is ALL WOMAN.
That's what scares the fright wigs off of the Women-Masquerading-as-Men-with-Holes in the NOW radical-feminist organization.
She can shoot, skin a moose, fly a plane, shoot a hoop, cook, birth five children, manage a household, GOVERN the largest state in the U.S., and LEAD.
Of course they hate her.

Maybe it something called:

If you actually had any, then maybe you'd understand.
Core Values.

I have plenty of core values.
What you take issue with is the fact they don't align with your core values or the religious Right.
The crazy-donkey neocons think that it's their way or the highway. Sorry, we're living in America. Last I checked Fascism wasn't part of it.
GREAT NEW OBAMA AD!

What's happened to the old white wrinkley guy?
Deception is all he has left.
He's dishonorable!
Great stuff!
Yes, leadership: 'Barack Obama said Monday the upheaval on Wall Street was "the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression" and blamed it on policies that he said Republican rival John McCain supports.'

And yet I listened and watched closely on CNN, NPR, MSNBC and ABC and heard nothing of Obama's reply. What's going on with that? Video of Palin shrieking on three channels that they won't let this stuff happen during their administration. McCain still blurting out that the fundamentals of the economy are just fine. Bush says he understands our pain.
But no Obama coverage.

Because Obama had nothing of substance to say:
"Bush = bad. McCain = Bush 44"
http://www.tulsanow.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11411
I think his media gauntlet realized what a turd this speech was. He's not going to win on an indictment of the Bush admin. He needs to share more what his bright ideas are.

Sorry, Conan, that description could serve as well for Bush, McCain and Palin. There were no bright ideas only what I wrote.
Bush: Yeah, it hurts.
Palin: Not under our reign!
McCain: Nothing to see here, move along.
It seems the press is showing its real bias and its not Liberals for Obama!

Maybe Obama was actually listening with economists instead of speaking to reporters.
Maybe he was too hung over from drinking tequila shots with the heads of every major media outlet (who love him).
Not speaking to the cameras for half a day seems like acceptable behavior to me.
I guess the Bush/McCain/Palin camps all felt rushing out to speak as fast as possible was better for their candidates. You would think that they would be a little sensitive about the issue, but I guess if you triple team it, you can say whatever you want.
He's spoken about it at at least two different campaign rallies today.
FYI, if he were actually LISTENING to economists, he wouldn't be espousing the tax policy he has on his website.

Handily enough, here's a list of economists who support Obama's policies. (//%22http://econ4obama.blogspot.com/2008/06/obama-economic-advisors-and-economic.html%22) Click through some of the source links; they go directly to primary source articles.

Warren Buffet, investor, richest person in world
Oh boy. Do you want the list of economists who back McCain now? Incidentally, how does one become a "welfare expert?"
Yeah, nothing like trotting out the usual list of economists from the Republican side of the aisle who think making the Bush tax cuts for the rich permanent in a time of war is a GREAT idea...

The Other List: McCain's Economic Advisers
Who are the people who have left McCain confused about his own opinions? Here are his economic advisers mentioned in the press:
Doug Holtz-Eakin source
Holtz-Eakin is a formerly respected academic and government economist who has been reduced to making distortionary arguments to paper over the massive deficit black hole McCain's tax cuts would create.
Arthur Laffer source
Laffer is the originator of the Laffer curve, the fringe view that claims government revenue increases when tax rates are lowered. There is zero empirical evidence this is true at current tax rates. McCain has repeatedly said that he believes this foolishness, but Holtz-Eakin has said (also repeatedly) that McCain does not.
Phil Gramm source
Gramm is a lobbyist who was vice president of one of the investment houses most heavily implicated in the mortage industry scandal. As a senator he pushed for the banking deregulation that contributed to the current crisis. See more here.
Kevin Hassett source
Hassett has been widely ridiculed for writing the book Dow 36000: The New Strategy for Profiting from the Coming Rise in the Stock Market in 1999, predicting that the Dow would hit 36,000 within five years, if not sooner.
Donald Luskin source
Luskin has been repeatedly named the Stupidest Man Alive by Brad Delong. See here for an example. I can attest based on my own interaction with him a few years back that in addition to being not the sharpest tack in the box, he is also an extremely unpleasant person.
Nancy Pfotenhauer source
Pfotenhauer is a pure distilled product of Koch Industries, an oil company which funds much of the right wing message machine. See here for details.
Carly Fiorina source
Fiorina was spectacularly fired from her previous job as CEO of HP. According to the Times,
... Republicans say Ms. Fiorina is using the McCain campaign to rebuild her image after her explosive tenure at Hewlett-Packard. They also say it is hard to see why a woman widely criticized for mismanaging one of Silicon Valley's legendary companies is advising and representing a candidate who acknowledged last year that he did not understand the economy as well as he should.
Regarding Fiorina, Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, the senior associate dean for executive programs at the Yale School of Management, says "What a blind spot this is in the McCain campaign to have elevated her stature and centrality in this way. You couldn't pick a worse, non-imprisoned C.E.O. to be your standard-bearer."
With clowns like these advising him, it's not surprising that doesn't even know what his own positions are on major questions of economic policy. Admittedly, there's a difficult problem of cause-and-effect here. Is he incoherent because he gets lousy advice, or is it his utter ignorance on economic issues that led him to seek guidance from this crew? As evidence for the latter hypothesis, he has said "The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should," and made similar assertions on many occasions.
And now, in fairness, you are going to trot out the ascerbic bios on Obama's economic advisors?
No.
Because the conservative BS-artists at TNF have no respect for even-handedness...
And then there are those who pretend to be even-handed libertarians while tarring and feathering a perfectly good candidate....
I remember Graham-Rudman..... I watched alot of classmates have to quit college... I had to work graveyard shifts at Village Inn while a full time student... I know what it feels like to yourself financial slip every year doing part-time retail jobs linked to minimum wage... I know what a minimum wage freeze feels like... all that time back in the 80s, I just thought I was doing "my share" to reduce the deficit... I don't want anybody else or any other generation of 20-somethings to have to go through that...
Whiner... my aZZZ...
