Not at all. I'm a little let down this is all it was.
Where did you hear it was the Eagles? The TW article says the "big announcement" is set to be made on Tuesday. Have they had the announcement yet?
It's official: http://www.ktul.com/news/stories/0808/547630.html
Lame news.
Bad photoshop or cutouts?

Wow. What a letdown.
That's not the announcement.

just a guess here. but, i think the big announcement will be madonna. she has an opening between denver and houston. tulsa would be a good fit between those dates.

Exactly. The Eagles wasn't the announcement. From KOTV,
"The city says it has a "monumental" act on deck, and it's even surprised the promoter could convince the act to come to Tulsa." (Source (//%22http://www.newson6.com/Global/story.asp?s=8887772%22))
Since the Eagles are already coming to Tulsa, I don't think anyone has to convince them to come.
It's Madonna.
That's the announcement, brought to you by me.

That cant be it. Thats not "monumental" or even a big announcement. They arent that great an act anyway. The reason they sold out like they did in the first place was because they were the main opening act for the new arena and people wanted to go to whatever it was. Its not as though Tulsans are somehow, uniquely, crazed Eagles fans lol.
So when is the monumental announcment then?
When I was watching the news at 7:30 this morning, they said the announcement would be made in an hour. That was about the time the Eagles announcement was made. I hope there is another announcement, but I'm not holding my breath.
If it were Madonna, it would fit into her current tour schedule. She is in Denver on Nov 12, and then in Houston on Nov 16 leaving enough time for a stop off in Oklahoma.

Hmm. . . Denver and Houston, Is that what she calls them?

Now how could I leave that alone?
ha!
Madonna? A major act?
Last time I checked it wasn't 1986 anymore.

She's No. 1.
She beats Coldplay, Metallica and the Eagles.
So, yes, I'd say that makes her major.

Weird, I wonder when they announced (or did they?) announce Metallica. Oh well, for 90% of the world that's pretty epic :) I think we are just lacking a press release.. but that has to be the announcement.
Yeah, the Metallica concert has been known for a couple weeks now. I'm about 99.9% sure the 2nd Eagles concert was the announcement.

I have an inside source that told me point blank today that it would be these guys.

The Mayor should make an announcement tomorrow.

They already had a billboard up along Hwy 75 S adjacent to the train yard south of 23rd this morning for the 2nd Eagles show.
That didn't take long.

If it's for the new show they replaced the old one with "SOLD OUT" stamped across it.
How do they break even on two shows?
What's the intent here? To break the back of a few scalpers?
Does this cost the taxpayers if it loses money or the promotor? EMG? Some kind of experiment?
Seems stoopid to the devil's advocates.
The Eagles must be beholden to a higher corporate power manipulating common people's desire to hear something live better found on CD's.
This will no have an effect on scalpers in the long run. So, maybe the Eagles are just trying to milk it for all they've got.

To make more money.
Adding shows is common practice in many, many large venues if they sell out quickly enough, which this one did.
I remember when Springsteen added something like three shows in Chicago at the old arena about 15 years ago.
Tulsa's not Chicago....fyi. Nowhere close.
Makes no sense (cents?). Sorry.

Exactly....demand around Chicago much greater than demand around here. There's not 36,000 peeps wanting to see the Eagles.
Perhaps, the promoter is attempting to utilize this second show to better understand the demographics in the area. But the devil in me still thinks the Eagles have become pawns in the new redfined big areana show biz.
"And the poor white remains

But it ain't him to blame
He's only a pawn in their game."

lol @ the scalpers. Maybe the point is to knock 'em down a peg and quell future scalping.
Modonna would be fun. Prince would be better.
Metallica is a good land as is Nine Inch Nails. Anyone notice the announcement of these acts was not nearly as hyped as the others? Strange.
Anyway, looking forward to see who it is. The booking agent is doing a fabulous job. I hope Tulsa lives up to the billing and keeps bringing the acts in.
PS. Anyone who can't find something to do in Tulsa needs to go to Pollstar and/or the PAC website and see all performances going on. It's crazy for a town this size!
Yes, Cannon Fodder....it's crazy. It will affect the Cain's, Brady, Blank Slate, etc. The ballet and opera too will suffer, as will the PAC acts.
There's only so much money devoted to entertainment in Tulsa by it's citizens and countless visitors. It could mess up our equalibrium and we could lose the very groups that distinguished our city from others to begin with.
Why are the Eagles playing here twice?
Now that's crazy.[:O]

And we answered you...twice now.
Supply vs demand. It stands to reason if an act sells out in an hour for 15000 seat event that they might think the DEMAND is there for another.
Sheesh, being a dyed-in-the-wool democrat I thought you would understand economics.
And those acts coming to the smaller venues couldn't afford the big venue arena to play in, so why would you be concerned that those acts wouldn't book? That's just crazy, like your note saying a second Eagles concert is crazy.
For someone I thought that was progressive you sure are against Tulsa competing in the convention/arena market, from what I've derived of your hatred of the new building. It's almost reminiscent of a certain quadruped that posts on here.

I wonder what is not being bought in Tulsa over the next few months.Surely all the ticket money being spent isn't money just laying around with no other place to go.
Is the ticket tax equal to the tax for something at Lowes ?

Much of what you listed will be unaffected because they are the smaller indie type shows. The hipsters who wouldn't be caught dead supporting something "mainstream" like an Eagles or Celine Dion concert. What the BOK center will primarily do, is recapture entertainment dollar that WAS going away to OKC, Dallas, and KC. I'm not saying the effect will be zero, but it won't be devastating either. The overall entertainment spending will increase somewhat just for the excitement of having a world class facility in town. People who usually just said screw it, will now actually be interested in seeing something. I know because I am one of those people. I've spent ZERO on concerts & events for years, and am considering spending more than zero now.
So is there going to be an announcement today?
So the big announcement was another Eagles show? I think a new big name would have been exciting. Hope the place can sell out another show, but I dunno.
If y'all are worried about people spending their limited entertainment dollars, you should visit a local casino on a Friday night... I have no clue what the nightly take is, but it's a lot. These folks don't look like they're spending entertainment dollars. They look like they're spending food, rent, health care and child support dollars on slot machines. Yikes!

That is correct. Tulsa draws from all of northeastern Oklahoma as well as southeastern Oklahoma, western Arkansas, southwestern Missouri and southeastern Kansas.
The Tulsa metro is 905,000 (2007 estimate), but add in the surrounding region and it is considerably more.
No, Tulsa is not nearly as big as Chicago. But it is a regional hub for the area.
If Janet Jackson has a "wardrobe malfunction" in Tulsa, she might go to jail.

Nice try, bleeding-heart. I'm a registered democrat who did not care for Reaganomics. But, I understand that while cities that surround us build ever larger arenas, in order for us to compete for the convention/concert dollar, we must as well.
I used to enjoy reading some of your posts. Now your just another idiot with an agenda and an axe to grind. Sheesh.
No axe to grind, Hose. But the personal attacks on me by you illustrates the blind ambition you have for the city of Tulsa but the lack of care you have for our community.
So, you think Tulsa should have a major league franchise too? Why not put in subways? Why not build a huge new airport?
We can't compete in the convention/arena business. Sorry to disappoint you. We are a third tier market in that field of dreams.
Did you grow up....here?
Tulsa and Tulsans should stop trying to be something they are not.....try to do the best at what we did.

How is calling you 'another idiot with an axe to grind' a personal attack, especially with some of the dandies you've thrown out? That's pretty tame compared to you. How is calling me a 'Repiglican' not a personal attack?
You've officially become irrelevant and a cartoon character now. You're a waste of internet space now.
The big "ACT" announcement that was made today that we have been talking about is Janet Jackson. I really thought it was going to be Madonna so I got this one wrong but this should be a fun concert for alot of people.

Look, not everyone "blows" all their disposable income on the Pineapple Express.
It's not a stretch for the Eagles to fill the BOk twice. I don't know what seating configuration they are using but let's say they have about 36,000 tickets on sale. If 25% of the tickets are sold to people from out of town that leaves about 24,000 tickets for the locals. To sell out only about 1 in 34 people in the metro would need to buy a ticket.
Three people out of a hundred buying a ticket is really not a reach at all.
That's a little disappointing. To me monumental is saying that Led Zeppelin is going to have a reunion tour, and Tulsa is one of their stops.

Nope, not at all upset.
Don Henley(sp?)of The Eagles is playing the Brady.
A monumental anoucement would be: Devon is moving to Tulsa or SemGroup was playing a joke.
