Title: Anyone know a company that can instsall a gas line
Post by: zstyles on July 17, 2008, 11:44:00 AM
Just bought a house that has a electric range, we have gas lines running to the two furnace's but nothing into the kitchen..I called a large company here in Tulsa and a quote was about 500.00 to do it..but would like to compare to maybe a few more...any suggestions on who to call...also I am not sure who to call..plumbers? Who or what category would this fall into?

Sounds about right.  Average service company is in the $70 to $100 an hour range I think now.

I believe there might also be a city permit and inspection involved.  I know how it works on large stuff, just not certain about residential.

Make sure you use a licensed mechanical contractor (heat and air guys or plumbers).  Natural gas is not something to let just any hillbilly mess with it.  You also want to make sure they can tell if you have enough gas flow off the meter to handle more appliances, it could possibly require a different gas regulator.  For a stove, I doubt it, but a good mechanical contractor will be able to tell you for sure.

So start calling down the yellow pages.  Keep in mind, most guys will want to come out and take a look before quoting, so if you have the time to tie up, go for it.  General rule-of-thumb is to get three bids, but I think $500 is pretty fair, assuming your stove is in reasonible proximity to the gas main.

Not too bad...I hired builders to do everything except run gas lines.  Wanted to give it another shot.
