TULSA, Oklahoma -

The city of Tulsa comes in 9th as one of the Top 10 Cities with the Best Music Scenes by Livability.com, a national website that highlights more than 500 of America's best places to live.

According to the article, New York City, Los Angeles and Nashville are the top cities with thriving music scenes, but other cities across the US make music lovers feel right at home.

The article says Tulsa makes its top ten list due in part to its history when the King of Western Swing and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Bob Wills relocated his band to Cain's Ballroom in downtown Tulsa.

"Tulsa is a great music town where you can find something every night," says Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame president Jim Paul Blair.

He credits the variety of bookings at venues like Cain's Ballroom, Hard Rock Casino, BOK Center, plus numerous smaller venues for ensuring music fans of all types will stay entertained.

Top 10 cities with the best music scenes outside Nashville, New York City and Los Angeles:

   1 Athens, Georgia
   2 Minneapolis, Minnesota
   3 Portland, Oregon
   4 Chapel Hill, North Carolina
   5 Omaha, Nebraska
   6 Cambridge, Massachusetts
   7 Fort Worth, Texas
   8 Madison, Wisconsin
   9 Tulsa, Oklahoma
   10 Concord, California

at first i didn't give the list much credit since it didn't include austin and memphis.  i read the article a second time and realized that this quote is probably why they weren't included: "He credits the variety of bookings at venues like Cain's Ballroom, Hard Rock Casino, BOK Center, plus numerous smaller venues for ensuring music fans of all types will stay entertained."

WORTHY!

Curious...would Tulsa have made this list WITHOUT "the MotherShip"?

These kind of lists are usually worthless Chamber of Commerce Brag Sheets but this one is on target except I would move Tulsa up to No. 1 on the list.  I've lived in Ft. Worth and Ft. Worth's music scene is not in the same class as Tulsa's.  Tulsa's music scene has been outstanding for a long time.  And the tradition continues.
