Until I started working four times a month in Kansas and twice a month in Texas three years ago due to the slacking economy in Oklahoma, I never knew how popular Whataburgers were in Texas.
They have radio ads running constantly there, and Whataburgers have the same types of locations that Quiktrips and MickeyDees do in Tulsa.
Not as clean as a Quiktrip or other fast food places, but their pancake breakfast is one of my favorites to pick up after driving 6 to 8 hours straight to get to the racetrack.
Since my job begins at 5:45am I normally try to hit the Whataburgers around 4:30am arriving there to stop and eat and rest before driving out to the tracks. I work at four different tracks in Texas and there is a Whataburger within 15 miles on my trail at every one of them.
They do have some great ketchup also.
Pretty crazy when I have to work in Kansas on Friday night, then pack up and drive all night non-stop clear across Oklahoma and into Texas to work Saturday and Sunday. Sure wish something good would happen in Oklahoma to pick up the economy here so I could work in Oklahoma and make the same amount that I earn in Kansas and Texas on the weekends.
What's cool about the 'Burg (as me and my friends called it-and what I still call it) is that it's unpretentious and doesn't have that Madison Avenue pizazz. it's just honest fast food.
