The name comes from Ponce in Puerto Rico, a city named for Ponce de Leon, but it's also Brit slang for a driver/guardian employed by a prostitute or an effeminate man (not that there's anything wrong with that.) If we're trying to project power and authority across the oceans, maybe it's a good idea to keep this one ship out of British ports.
